Transfer Engineering admitted student in U of Michigan - Ann arbor

hey all,
I am applying as transfer student (winter 2011) with finishing requirements for Engineering. Community college Overall GPA is 3.8. In-State student, Applying in Mechanical Engineering. Cal 1(AP Calc), {Calc 2, Calc 3, diff.qu, phys 1} = 4.0 , phys 2 = 3.8, chem 3.8, eng 1 = 3.3, eng 2 = 4.0, programing 1 (2 credit) = 3.8, and programing 2 = taking....

1) How many credits taken/transfer ?
2) Which level did you transfer to like 2 year or 3 year in Engineering ?
3) What is your gpa when you applied ?
4) Which engineering ?
5) Did you got any scholarships, fiance aid, etc ?
if yes, they by consider overall gpa or only engineering class gpa ?
6) how's doing right now ?
7) While they looking overall gpa or requirements gpa ? (because i had soc 1 = 3.2 that's why overall gpa down)
8) Community college / University transfer ?
9) In-State / OOS / International ?
10) What is acceptance rate for engineering ? (fall / winter)
11) Any other comment/advise ?

Thank you for your time......
Good luck !!

I replied in your other thread in the engineering forum, I’ll give a little more detail here.

1.) I had something like 150 credits when I applied (engineering was my third, and final, major). I think 87 of those transferred in.

2) I basically came in as a second semester sophomore. I had more credits, obviously, but there were some engineering pre-reqs I had to take that weren’t available at my previous university. I’ll graduate 2.5 years after starting at UMich.

3) My GPA was only a 3.35 or so, but my engineering GPA was something like a 3.65. Again, engineering was my third major, so I had a good upward trend for my GPA.

4) I’m in the Civil & Environmental Engineering department.

5) No scholarships, but did get the regular financial aid (federal loans). This is one downside to being a transfer student, there are few scholarships out there for incoming students.

6) It’s going really well. I really like UofM. I do feel restricted by some of the class requirements, but it’s nothing that I can’t work around.

7) Prerequisite requirements are more important (math/physics/chem/etc), a single 3.2 shouldn’t hurt you.

8) I came over from a university.

9) In-state

10) I really have no idea, and I don’t know if that’s something they really publish data on. I know that when I came in for winter, there were only about 60 students coming in. More people apply for fall transfer instead of winter, I doubt this affects the acceptance rate.

11) Being that the deadline is three days away, I don’t know if there’s much more advice I can give, unless you haven’t submitted your app. PM me if you haven’t, and I’d be glad to look over your app.

@ chasely: I submitted app and everything… thank you…thank you so much !!

I have some more questions !!

12) did you get any internship or join in clubs or any research project ??
13) After got decision that you are “admitted”… what we have to do next ?? orientation …? explain. thank you !!
14) What you are doing in summer ? internship !!?
15) Advise/comment !

thank you for your time…

12) I’m interested in going to graduate school, so I’ve done research instead of internships. Right now I am on the executive board of an engineering organization, in addition to being a research assistant. There are plenty of clubs to get involved in here, so you shouldn’t have problems finding one you’re interested in. There will be a career fair a couple weeks into the winter semester, it may be hard to get an internship, it being your first semester at U-M, but it’s worth a shot.

13) You’ll have to pay a small fee to reserve your spot ($200-300 I think), then you’ll have orientation before the winter semester starts, and you’ll sign up for classes. Mine was mid-December. There will most likely be some 200-level classes you’ll need to take that shouldn’t be too hard to get into. Depending on what other work you’ve done, you could get into some upper-level classes.

14) For summer I was a research assistant. There are plenty of people that do internships though. I really like A2 in the summer, it’s a bit quieter, but definitely not dead.

15) There’s really not much more advice I can give. If you get in, then there wil be more advice I can give. Good luck! Wayne State has a good program too, not to mention you can live in a nice area of Detroit for a lot less than Ann Arbor.

did you took any placement test ?
thank you so much…thank you for answering

thank you for your time

Placement test for what?

I believe if you’re in LS&A, you have to take a math placement, but that isn’t required for CoE.

I took a placement test for Spanish, but that wasn’t related to my transfer admissions.

thank you for your comment !!

Just waiting for decision…
