Transfer Environmental Science + Art minor

Hello,

I began college at Maryland Institute College of Art, then I got sick of art school, so now I'm biding time at a community college and applying to schools for next year. I'm now thinking of majoring in Environmental Science, or possibly Ecology. Also, since I have so many art credits that would not satisfy science requirements, I am hoping to turn them into a minor so they don't go to waste.

My GPA for MICA is 3.695 and my GPA for community college is 4.0. I live in PA, and I am hoping to go somewhere not terribly far. Cost is an issue since I already have a good bit of debt, and will probably be taking a bit more time to finish my degree. I'd prefer a college that is small/medium sized, and in a location where classes can go outside and do field work (i.e. not a big city).

So far, I've applied to SUNY Binghamton, Plattsburgh, ESF, Brockport, and Oneonta, and Rutgers (because my mom lives in NJ, but it turns out she might be moving). I'm not feeling terribly excited about any of them though. I am leaning towards Binghamton, but they do not have Environmental Science, so I'd major in Biology (not sure if the difference matters in terms of careers), and Plattsburgh, though Plattsburgh doesn't seem to have a super reputation? ESF sounds pretty great too, but I doubt I could declare an art minor there, though maybe that shouldn't be a concern at this point.

Originally, I was staying away from private schools due to price, but now I'm thinking maybe I should try a few. Allegheny and Juniata seem like possibilities.

Any advice about the schools mentioned, others I may want to think about, or Environmental Science/Ecology in general? Thanks a lot!

My older D is getting her second bachelors at SUNY ESF. Her first bachelors was from Colgate.

You are right, you can’t declare an art minor there, but if environmental science is your interest that is a great place to be and very affordable.

My D has been able to do a lot of actual hands on work in the field, including finding plants that are useful for cleaning up environmental waste.
