I'm thinking of applying to a few transfer schools (Brown, Columbia, Vanderbilt, NYU). I just want some advice on writing the common app transfer essay:

Is it advisable for me to use the same essay for all my schools or should I vary it up from school to school?

How creative should it be? I'm not a great writer and I can't really see how I can make a "why transfer" essay to not be cliche.

What are some of the reasons people gave that they want to transfer?

Thanks in advance!

1) Aren’t many (all?) of those schools using the Common App? I don’t think you have a choice… All essays are the same for every school, no? Maybe you’re referring to the supplemental…

@nick_scheu: yeah but I think you can choose to submit them separately with a different essay for each. i mean i rather have 1 essay for all (saves loads of work) but there are different reasons for why i want to transfer into different schools.

If you can, you should definitely have a custom essay for each school.

^ k thanks I think that will be best too.
