I'm confused about the why transfer essay. On the transfer common app, the why transfer essay is part of the common app so it wouldn't make sense to tailor it to the university you want to transfer to right? Because if you are applying to moer than one transfer school, won't all of them see that essay?

Good post, very helpful.

I second pmahesh107's question. Do we write a single "why transfer" and then multiple "why transfer to X" essays, or is it best to write two unique essays for each and every school?

pmahesh: You can make different versions of the CA for submitting to different schools. Go to the CA subforum under College Admissions, this question has been asked several times regarding modifying essays for different colleges..

Tom: This is a pain with the CA and I wish they'd change it. I think you should write two separate essays. You can make the CA "why transfer" essay more general and then go into specifics about the particular school on the "why X". As I recall, most but not all schools ask for a "why X" essay in their supplement, so you might have to alter your CA "why transfer" essay depending on the school.
