I'm applying as a transfer student to Yale, and the essay prompt is simply to "write a personal essay." I have an essay that I wrote for first year application which is essentially an interior monologue of what was running through my head as I conducted my HS marching band at our last competition. This essay meets all of the important criteria: it is personal, i.e., it is something that "makes me tick," it is exciting, and it shows rather than tells. Considering, however, that it is about an experience that was an important part of my High School career, and I am applying as a student who has already experienced a year of college, would it would be inappropriate to submit it with a transfer application?

I think your transfer essay should talk something about why you want to transfer and things like that. The adcoms need to know about you, true, but more importantly they need to know about why you want to transfer right?

I am of course, assuming that there are no other essays.

there is another essay that asks "why do you want to transfer to Yale? What personal or educational experiences have influenced your decision to apply?

Yeah if there is such an option, then it should be ok I guess. To pull out all stops with this essay.
