I'm currently filling out transfer applications for harvard and a few other ivy league schools (but let's use harvard as the case study) and I'm trying to tackle the "reasons for wanting to transfer to Harvard" essay.

I have a few reasons for wanting to transfer including social, prestige, and academic issues but I'm not really sure which I should emphasize. I'm tempted to focus only on academic reasons because I feel like this is what they want to hear, but it may require me to embellish/out right make up a lot of stuff and I'm afraid of coming off cliched and unoriginal.

Any advice?

PS While we're on the subject of essays, I'm assuming its a given that I should write a "personal statement" essay even though its optional for Harvard but I'd welcome any input.

the incredible political science department and really good sociology department (i want to be a double major in political science and sociology) but i don't know if just writing about how great both departments are is enough

i get that, the question is should i focus just on the academic benefits that harvard provides (which would require some embellishing), rather than the social/prestige benefits

I'm in the process of writing my Univ. of MD essay transfer essay, and what I'm writing about is like, my history with the school, reasons for transferring (although in my case its obvious, since I go to community college) and writing what I have to offer to Maryland, like something you're good at that you can use to give back to the university.
