I'm a college freshman looking to transfer into Wake Forest.
What is the transfer experience like? Are transfers separated from the rest of the school community?

I just completed my first semester at Wake after transferring in to start my sophomore year. I had an excellent transfer experience – the community at Wake definitely eased the transition. I did have a handful of good friends from high school who were there, too, which made matters a little easier, as did rushing and pledging in the fall. The only way I felt ostracized as a transfer was in terms of housing, as many (at least sophomores) transfers are housed in Palmer and Piccolo, two dorms that are somewhat out of the way (10 minute walk to the center of campus). Other than that, my transfer experience has been excellent. All of my credits from my prior college transferred over seamlessly, and I was able to get into all of the courses I wanted to take for fall semester. Let me know if you have any more questions I can answer, I’d be more than happy to try to answer them.

Hi btknight17 -

I wasn’t a transfer, and I can’t speak for all transfers, but I know many of them who went through spring recruitment and I do not feel as if they were at a disadvantage there. Furthermore I have had transfers in my classes - although sometimes it was hard for them to adjust to the workload at Wake, I have found that most transfers, in my experience, seem to adjust pretty well otherwise.

I do not feel as if transfers are really separated from the school community except, as Moylan mentioned, with housing. However, Wake is currently building more dorms, so I suspect that this will be less of an issue in the future.

I was a transfer and I can say that I think for the most part, transfers have enjoyed their experience. Most, though not all, have had a great experience. Especially those who transferred their sophomore year (not junior).

Also, I’d say that Wake’s small size and close community helps this a lot. As a transfer you just have to get involved in something you enjoy

I’m currently at Boston College’s Carroll School of Management with a 3.0 GPA, and am thinking about transferring into Wake. I think BC’s business school is a bit better than Wake’s but I want to transfer because of fit. Do you think I have a shot? According to this website it says Wake Forest’s acceptance rate is 40% and and it’s transfer acceptance is 26.7%.

Hi @prepurm1216 -

Not to put down BC’s business school in any way, but I think that in a lot of aspects, Wake’s business school is better. They are ranked similarly and I looked at both schools very seriously for undergrad.

If you want accounting, there is no better place to be than Wake, plain & simple. BC & Wake are fairly similar in general. There is no real way to tell if you have a shot, especially with just a GPA to go on, but if you think Wake is truly for you then you should definitely apply!

Does anyone know if Wake considers spring semester grades when applying? My current university releases grades I think on the last day of March. I’m asking beacuse I have a B+ and a W (acting class as an economics major, was not failing), on my trasnscript right now, which makes my GPA a 3.78. But I’m hoping to get straight A’s this spring.

last day of April*

Transfers to Wake tend to form a community and do well socially. Wake is significantly more difficult than where you went to school but dedication makes up for it.
