So even though I paid for my housing application in February someone who potentially applied after me will have preference over me? That doesn’t sound right to me. there is no way I can afford an off campus apartment without using financial aid to do so. Will financial aid pay for that?

You can use financial aid to help cover off campus living. You could share a room in an apartment to cut costs. My child will be doing this next year and the overall cost is about what a dorm on campus would be. Plus side is a kitchen, living room and washer/dryer.

You can e-mail one of the people for housing at UT and see if you will be able to get a room on campus because they can give you a better answer… And it depends on how much grants/scholarships you get, unless you want to take out loans. And I worked for 2 years before coming to UT so I had enough money saved and my parents help me out for paying groceries and other outside stuff. I just wanted to avoid getting loans. But ya flatxca is right, you should maybe share a room to cut down cost.

Alright. Thanks guys. So does anyone want to recommend any good apartments near campus?

If you don’t mind having roommates, def check out Longhorn Landing.

Is Longhorn Landing nice?
And what type of people primarily live there?

Longhorn Landing is basically gonna be allllll UT students. Check it out!

By the way, what are you stats?
Intended major?
Hours?
GPA?
Current college?

I applied to Liberal Arts as an ANTH major, GEOG as my second choice
27 hours
3.22
Houston Community College

My GPA was supposed to be a 3.33 but my dumbass prof forgot to put in my grade change (that’s HCC for you). I’m currently taking 20 hours of classes right now, and I plan on testing out of at least 6 hours of Spanish.

I’ve heard that Longhorn Landing is really bad, especially if you look at all the reviews. I would probably stay at the Ballpark, which is a little bit better…

I also heard longhorn landing is awful… reviews of apartments are a great tool! :)

My information is listed in a Transfer thread but again I will list them below…

I’m currently a freshman at Richland College (Dallas County Community College District)
1st choice: Pre-Nursing major
2nd choice: Psychology
Total hours completed thus far: 20
Current GPA: 3.6
Current # of Hours I’m enrolled in: 16
Hoping to have a 3.79 by the end of this term. If not that at least a 3.69.

P.S. I talked to housing the other day and they told me that if you don’t get a contract after you’re admitted and pay the deposit that you will get put on a wait list. In years past they said they have found a spot for nearly everyone on the wait list. So I think I will probably be waiting till then to figure out where I am going to live. I just decided to have a little faith I guess. Hopefully it all works out.

^I do hope they have housing left. If they don’t, I’ll probably be too late to get apartments. :/

Crap, I hope so too…

So do you guys think I have a good chance if I get my GPA up to a 3.48 - 3.5?

I’m already overloaded with classes, I had to get Dean’s approval for excess hours.
Plus I’m first-gen American, first college student of my fam, full-time job, got 2 letters of recs and wrote the optional essay describing why my GPA was so low my first semester of college (med condition).

Do you think I would be okay with my predicted GPA or should I try to take another course to get it higher?

of so if my GPA is a 3.0, with like 35-40 hours (i don’t really know how many hours i’ll have at the end of this sem.), and i took 3 classes in the summer and got A’s in all three of them, can my GPA go up to like 3.5, before i start in august, so i can apply to UT for the spring?

Without knowing the exact details the best guess on your question would be a gpa of 3.18

@Manayy - This is a lifesaver.
