Transfer Fall 2010 - Chance me, Help , Advice. ANYTHING!

Hey all, I'm currently a freshmen applying to transfer out of my current school (hopefully) and attend Florida State University for the Fall of 2010. I dread going to my current school & i absolutely loathe everything about it- except for a few select teachers & students. I also commute which is a huge downer (I live in NYC) & the price tag of my current university is about 40 grand a year- not worth it for a tier 3. I plan to declare my major as Economics (general). The semester is about to end & I'm a little bit nervous about grades and transferring. I dont know my current GPA but my grades should be as follows (if all everything goes as planned)

English - A
Public Myths - A
Macroeconomics - A-
Gender, race, class - A- / B+
Algebra - C- / D
University Seminar- Pass

I'm really worred about my grade in Algebra- Would it affect my chances severely? I'm a very good student. My College EC's are as follows:
1. Student Government : University Affairs Secretary
2. University Newspaper
3. Chinese Cultural Club
4. Americorps Member

I went to visit my boyfriend at FSU this past October (without the intention of ever transferring into the school) and i was completely blown away. I have never in my life seen a school that was so big and so pretty! (lol- I'm from NYC - so seeing a school this size rendered me completely speechless). Everyone- from the students to the staff, was so incredibly friendly and hospitable- Not to mention the school spirit! I got the chance to tour the campus (great guide!), meet the dean of social sciences, meet with the admissions officer and dine out with several staff members of the college of social sciences at the university center club (my bf worked at the deans office- so they picked me up from the airport & took me out to lunch & again for my birthday- the following monday i was there). The whole experience was amazing- everyone was so hospitable! I honestly felt like it was home (lol.. i even bought an I <3 FSU shirt).

At first i tried to push FSU out of my mind, because i didnt want the stigma of being "that girl" who transferred into her BFs college- but i cant stop thinking about the school! I can honestly say, even if my BF wasnt there- i would go to FSU in a heartbeat!

The admissions officer was very friendly as well, she told me not to worry too much as long as my GPA was above a 3.0. But reading these threads on CollegeConfidential's really got me worried. I plan on submitting 2 prof recs, resume and a short (250 words or less) statement in with my application. (Though, they said it wasnt necessary, i really think i would need it because of my grades). Do yu think this would be a good idea?

I sent a thank you email once i got home & i was told to call the admissions officer once i submitted my application so she can oversee everything.

FSU is my first & foremost choice in school. I would be so disappointed if i didnt get in.

I want completely honest answers- i do not want ANY sugarcoating (please).

What do you guys think my chances are?
(I originally wanted to transfer into the honors college- but realized my GPA wasnt all that great).

Well…honestly it’s going to be harder to transfer if you don’t have your AA yet. Especially being out of state. But I think you should be able to get in. I got in with a 3.2 and no college EC’s so it’s possible, but then again I’m a FL resident and have AA. Especially since you have EC’s and only one c/d grade isn’t too bad.

FSU bigger than NYU? I’m surprised.

Good luck and I hope you get in!

i just want to be out of the city lol
NYU is ridiculously expensive (i dont go there btw) & they have no real campus.

Oh okay, I just assumed you did. It’s kind of funny cause you want to come to Tally for FSU and I want to go to New York.

i’ve lived in the city for the majority of my life. its getting kind of old and boring  i hope i get into fsu though. i really loved the school. nervous

so can anyone else chance me? lol… offer soem advice?

Hey! I’m applying for transfer for fall 2010 too! I have basically the same stats as you…so lets hope! where are you from? im from laguna beach, ca

im from new york, ny! (: im definitely hoping & praying! planning to submit everything very very soon (:
haha i saw yur other thread- why did yu withdraw from penn state? thats actually one of the other schools im trying to transfer to (but im rethinking it b/c of the weather & idk if id like it there… & also cause im in love with fsu lol)

I transferred from penn state for many reasons. ONE. my mom isn’t doing so well so I had to be here for her and such. TWO. its really overrated…soo many of my professors couldn’t speak english and really didn’t give a hoot. THREE. Being from california, the weather was horrible. Tallahassee weather is soo much better i bet! Have u visited? Did u submit ur FSU app yet?

yess. i visited back in october- it wasss acsolutely amazing & no, i didnt submit my app yet (its done though- so i might do it tnite lol)

did yu submit it yet?

I submitted everything except my college transcripts! haha good luck. I wonder when we will find out a decision, because the website really doesn’t say.

i submitted everything but my college & hs transcripts. im waiting for my schools to send em out (:

they said we should find out 6 - 8 weeks after everything has been submitted (so im guessing beginning to mid march?)

Just a heads up for transfers, especially after only freshman year, they may wait until spring grades post and they have a transcript to review before they issue a decision. Many decisions will not come until summer for transfer fall 2010. Without an AA they will look at your high school grades, your college grades, and your SAT scores. Get that D in Algebra up. If it is a D, they will most likely not decide until they see how you do for spring term.

honeyxtea!! i submitted everything! crosses fingers*
