aww thanks guys you are all so sweet. i cant wait to meet you all!!!

I received an email this morning as well, so I think they’re doing both.

Also, it said housing isnt guaranteed, which makes me a little nervous since i was hoping for apartment style housing and not a hallway dorm, but if i do any dorm OBVIOUSLY its elliot!!!

Im just gonna wait for my packet so I can make sure they’re taking all my credits (anybody have any insight on that, btw? Is barnard good at taking credits? Skid took the max from me so hopefully Barnard will do the same) and then im sending in my deposit!!! woohoooo!!!

@bwaybabe79: Congrats! I’m sure they loved your sleepy voice ahha

I am not digging Elliott that much… Anyone else feel the same way? It seems like all of you ladies love it.

I like it because then you’re living in a suite with all other transfers, who will all be in the same situation as you

^ Yeah, I do like that part, but from the pictures, the singles look tiny, but it’s understandable since everything in NY is tiny when compared to Los Angeles.

yeah. my double this year is huge for a college dorm room. I think all the rooms at Barnard are pretty small.

I’m conflicted about housing, too. I like the idea of living with other transfers (especially you lovely ladies!) but I prefer the apartment style suites as opposed to a hallway.

It’s gonna take some investigating and decision-making, but I’m so excited!!!

question: are any of you ladies unable to log on to the admitted students site yet? The lady on the phone told me it would take a few days to be put into the system, but I want to get on!

Hi! I’m new to this thread. I joined College Confidential just to post on here. You girls sound really cool. I also applied for Fall 2010 transfer admission and haven’t heard anything back yet. I live in Brooklyn so I’m hoping that doesn’t mean they sent it by regular mail aka rejected or waitlisted

OMG have you guys seen the Smith College houses?! I visited my cousin there last month and holy moly those ones are INSAAANE!!! o.O Their extra closet, which they didn’t even need to use because they had a bajillion closets in their giant high ceiling rooms, was basically the size of my single at Vandy. Hahaha! Anyway, the apartment style ones sound pretty convenient, too. Would we all be able to live there together? I have a lot of pots and pans to bring with me from my apartment and I have a bunch of small furniture that I don’t want to undergo the hassle of selling/storing… I also just like the idea of Elliot because 2 entire floors are occupied by transfers. I wouldn’t live in any other dorm that sporadically housed transfers. If it’s a dorm, let it be Elliot. But if we can actually request apartment style ones, that would totally be great! Any information on that?

Also lovelies, I just got my packet today! It doesn’t include my credit eval, although I sent my course descriptions yet. I’m sure it’ll come in a few since I did submit that list together with my app. This packet comes with a thin Welcome to Barnard book – the viewbook that we all got earlier has more information. There’s a cute little subway map that comes in the folder though, with a Barnard/Columbia cover! Cute. And mine has my international student document request forms. Eek. More paperwork to go!

Goodluck to the rest who are waiting!!! <3 Keep updating!

hey ladies

congrats to those who made it off the waitlist! I have yet to hear anything back from them though I did go to the admissions office on Wednesday and hand them a letter, expressing that I am still interested in Barnard, etc.

Met the mailman today, but still nothing. No email either. This sucks.

I’m still at school so hopefully I’ll find a packet when I get home. Isn’t express mail overnight? Don’t worry, you still have Saturday.

I’m pretty sure we can request whatever housing we want for upperclassmen, but we’re more likely to get placed in Elliot if the apartment style houses run out of room.

the apartments are set up very similarly to elliot- suites of 2-7 people. The only difference is really that it’s not a hallway, and you probably don’t have to adhere to a full meal plan. I love to cook (and im pretty damn good at it too!) so even though elliot has a full kitchen for the suite, the apartments appeal to me.

But def, if it has to be a hall, elliot is the way to go!!

elliot doesn’t look like much of a hall to me though, looking at the floorplan (but I live in a classic hall dorm this year so that’s probably why) since each group of twelve shares a bathroom and a kitchen, then there’s the common room that connects to the other suite. It’s like a weird apartment/hall hybrid

@thewoman OMG it’s so funny that you said that! I might be going to smith in the fall, and one of the reasons I chose to keep smith on my list instead of mount holyoke is their houses. They’re all small, like little communities, and the personal space is amazing.

But of course I’ll give up the amazing dorms and come to barnard if I get my thick envelope tomorrow!

Hi, quick question… In the acceptance package it said that I needed to send my final transcript to receive my transfer credit report and that admissions depended on the final transcript…is that normal? or did everyone already get their transfer credit evaluation?
Thanks

p.s. I already sent in the deposit!!! sooo excited for the fall
:)

No email and no mail yet. Goin crazy. Anybody else still waiting ?

I’m still waiting and going crazy as well
the prospects don’t seem great as this point. We’re most likely getting regular mail which means we’ve either been waitlisted or rejected entirely :(

@Paula hahaha! Yeah! Those Smith houses are drop-dead gorgeous. Um, hello 10ft ceilings?! My cousin lives in a “triple” that is literally 7x the siz of my current studio. They had two HUGE rooms connected to each other, and one lucky girl was supposed to have her bed isolated in the other room. They put all their beds in one room instead (with 664364364sq miles of walking space left), the room that has 2 giant closets and one full bath (and bathtub and shower). The other room that has the giant closet the size of my previous single at Vandy, they ended up making into a giant party room. It has all their desks, a futon, a beer pong table, 2 giant wall shelves, and dressers. That one has triple the walking space left compared to what they made into their sleeping quarters. Their “triple” is bigger than any modest student- or yuppie-rented 1-2 bedroom NYC apt I have EVER seen. THE END. (And that’s why they win for the nation’s best dorms AND quality of living. Have you visited? Because it IS true. My cousin LOVES it.)

LADIEZ

Tell me what housing you all are gonna request! Idk if I can request as early as everyone else b/c I still have to finish transferring over my non-immigrant papers and visa stuff! But yeah I def turned in my deposit like Thursday night after semi-celebrating (I still have finals lol)! So excited! Also @Cody! Hmm mine says my credit eval will be mailed like “shortly after” receipt of my big packet. I think they’ll put everything they’re gonna consider, even the courses we’re currently taking. The final transcript thing is just a requirement that you need to mail to them to fully guarantee our acceptance and entrance… I think they don’t absolutely need the final transcript to do credit evals, because the credit evals themselves will probably put your current classes as tentative entries. :)

Hey anyone mind if I start the Fall 2010 transfer Facebook group?? :)

thewoman- start it!!! yesssss

why cant i log on to the admitted students site? I wanna send in my depositttttttt

Mawww don’t lose hope yettt!!! :(
