i sent in the ebear form.

hey ladies

i was talking to a friend of mine who goes to Duke and she was telling me how when she was on the waitlist for Duke last year, she arranged a meeting with an admissions representative in her area. She said that this meeting she had was extremely helpful in getting her off the waitlist and so she suggested I do the same for Barnard.

Would admissions let us do that? Personally schedule a meeting with a rep? Im thinking probably not but is it worth a try?

@transfer91 On Barnard’s FAQ website it says interviews are not offered to wait list candidates. But if you really want to, giving the Admissions 0ffice a call and asking probably won’t hurt

how well do you think barnard would take it if we got accepted to another school after we put in our deposit and made an e-mail address and stuff? i mean, we only had a week to reply. it’s just that as much as i love barnard, if i get into my all-time dream school, i’d much rather go there obviously. the problem is that they had their application due the first of april, and i still haven’t heard back yet. i’m in a bit of a pickle if i do end up getting in!

@xamandurr Barnard will get over it. That’s what they expect you to do - carry on as if you were not accepted into Barnard at all, because there’s a chance we won’t be. So just put it at the back of your mind and enjoy your other acceptances and if you get the chance to go to Barnard then go for it! :)

@xamandurr: you can talk to Barnard and get an extension. I just have to reconfirm my waitlist status with them every couple days while I wait for one more decision. I also got a deposit deadline extended 2 weeks from another school. I’m hoping this doesn’t affect my chances for good housing or course registration!

Quick question (well, questionS): I will be in nyc in about a week and I mentioned in my wait-list response letter that I’d drop by. Should I visit barnard, where should I go, who should I talk to, etc?

^you should go to the admissions office and personally drop off the letter! If your lucky, maybe you can even speak to an admissions representative if they’re available?

so i called the admissions office and they said that they really don’t allow for the opportunity to set up some sort of informal meeting with a representative to talk about getting off the waitlist. =(

You girls should read the article I posted. The waitlist is a back up plan for the university because they don’t want to be under-enrolled during a recession. Also, underperforming students who can afford to pay full tuition have a greater chance of admission this year because colleges don’t want to use their endowments to pay for poor students to attend their college. Barnard included. I called the Admissions office and was told the wait list was need-blind, but who really knows?

Hey guys, I’ve been following this thread for a while without posting. I’ve been accepted for the fall of 2010 as a junior transfer student. I’m an English and Theater major and i’ve already put down my deposit. I’m currently waitlisted at Brown, which was my top choice, but i’m starting to reconsider now that i’ve become accustomed to the idea of going to Barnard. Ugghhh, i hate being waitlisted. It just makes this already difficult process of transferring even more difficult.

im so sad that I still haven’t gotten a call from them. I really want to get off the waitlist and I dont know how I can convey that to the admissions office in person you know? I did send them my letter saying how much I really want to go to Barnard in the fall but other than that Im at a loss for what to do. Sigh, good luck to everyone still waiting to hear, and congrats to those who got in of course!

Maybe we’ll get some calls next week…hopefully

I’ve been thinking about why the waiting list isn’t moving also. If Batch #2 was mailed May 12th, they had until around May 19th to respond. If the final batch was mailed May 14th, anyone who was accepted had until the 21st to respond. I believe acceptees have one week to respond. So maybe the wait list isn’t moving unless one of the acceptees can’t afford to pay the deposit by the deadline.

sigh…i wonder if we can even hear as late as August.

I called Friday and was told the list is still moving but I dunno how. She said we would be notified when the list officially closes by the middle of June

So after much list-making and extra-careful thought, I told Barnard I would be attending next year! I actually haven’t sent a deposit yet (I’m putting it off till later this week), because I’m actually waiting to hear back from Northwestern, but I really wanted to make a decision. Can’t wait to meet you other Barnard transfers! I’m crossing my fingers for an Elliot single.

@seasonsofluv23 Sounds good! I was waitlisted and haven’t heard anything back so I’m moving on to my second choice. But have a blast at Barnard!

Hey, are you a Rent fan by any chance? I am too!

Finally made a decision that Barnard isn’t the place for me so I gave up my spot. Hopefully one of you ladies on the waitlist gets it since you guys seem to love Barnard a lot more than I do.

Good luck to everyone and have a fab summer!

hypnotiq-Thank you so much for your consideration, I know that me as well as the other ladies on the waitlist appreciate this. What school did you end up choosing?

Hey, would anyone who was accepted or waitlisted mind posting some stats? I’m trying to be realistic about fall transfer options and I love Barnard but I don’t want to get my hopes up too high so it would be really helpful! Thanks! =]

@nyc2013 My stats aren’t great. I currently attend a community college in the CUNY system. Mediocre SAT, but I have a bunch of extracurriculars including volunteer work with NYPIRG and being Secretary of the SGA. I also taught English in China for a summer.
