@ngangela oh wow you’re so close by haha, I go to Foothill. Congrats!
@searchforhome will do! thank you so much!
@ngangela I was wondering the same thing. I’m not sure how we go about that? I remember reading somewhere that you just have to be granted special permission. Maybe contact appstatus or admissions for it?
Hello everyone I am brand new to college confidential here and wanting some advice on which school at Santa Clara to apply to. Ultimately, I want to major in either computer science or Electrical engineering with a minor in entrepreneurship(it’s offered at Santa Clara) I know this seems obvious to apply to the engineering school but I am worried I won’t get in; so my best path my be to go to arts and sciences first and try an transfer. Here are my stats:
-30 graded units with 4.0 GPA from 3 different colleges(National American university, American Military University, and Embry Riddle Aeronautical university)
-My coursework includes: college algebra, pre calc, Calc 1, Eng comp 1, public speaking, General Chem 1 with lab, survey of physics with lab, principles of management
- I will be starting calc 2 and physics 1 for engineers in March(9 week classes)
-Active duty Air Force(total of 4.5 years of service) - multiple military awards such as Airman of the year, airman of quarter, early promotions etc…
- approximately 400 community service hours mostly in youth sports also in various organizations like meals on wheels, relay for Life etc…
-4 years technical experience in mechanical and electrical technology working as HVAC/R technician
Thanks for the advice in advance
@Eugiebalfj so I talked to my sister who is an alumni of SCU and she says that it’s much harder to change schools once you’re at SCU especially for the business and engineering because it is so competitive. By looking at your stats I think you have a good chance at getting in the engineering school especially with your military background. Best of luck!
@peony13 thanks for the info! My biggest fear with engineering is I am shy 3 of the pre reqs (those being two physics and Eng comp2). I called one of the counselors and they told me you can get admitted with out all of them but if you have them, you are going to get looked at first. The way I was looking at was at least if I am admitted to SCU it’s better to be there in my second or third major then starting at community college. This way I can start building rapport and connections sooner, as well as getting a better feel for the school. Maybe that is faulty logic though
@Eugiebalfj well I mean one of the people that commented on this thread also didn’t take some of the classes and still got accepted so there’s always a chance. But honestly you have really good ECs and that really counts too
So I have a question I hope you guys can help me with. I have gotten Deans list every quarter since I started at community college and I’m not sure if I should include that in my personal statement or in the section that asks about activities even though it’s more of an achievement. Or is it even worth mentioning? Thanks
@peony13 I think you should include that in your personal statement and devote the activities section to detailing your ECs that tell more about your interests!
@Eugiebalfj its not bad to go to a community college, however I understand where you are coming from. Just know that despite the stigma of going to a community college, it is not a bad plan to choose. When you go to a community college, that is if you ever decide to go, it will be harder for you to find internships and you would meet less people as well. (I have managed to find a few internships through applying though). It is how you network with people and how hard you want it that gets you jobs. Starting at SCU however as a first year would allow you to meet and network with more people =more opportunities. Lots of pro’s and con’s but goodluck.
Hey did you guys send in mid-term reports? If so, did you send it in with your official transcript or separately? Thanks
@peony13 I didn’t because I didn’t really have any grades for the semester by the time I got accepted. If you still haven’t heard, I recommend sending it in if you think it will help you!
Applied first week of February and haven’t gotten a decision yet. Should I be concerned? I haven’t sent in the mid term reports but they also haven’t requested them. Could that be the reason?
Applied to The Leavey School of Business if that matters.
@scutransfer1234 It probably wouldn’t hurt to send in the midterm report at this point. Especially if you are doing well right now and it can help you! Fingers crossed for you!
Hey @scutransfer1234 have you heard back yet?
For those of you who have heard back, how long did it take to hear back from admissions? And did you send in your midterm report at the same time as your common application or was it afterwards? I’m asking because I sent my app in on 02/28/17 and didn’t send the midterm report until 03/21/17 due to communication issues with an online professor. Basically I just want to know if that will mean I won’t hear back until later since my midterm report was turned in almost a month after the app
I applied around 1-24-2017 and still haven’t heard back. When I log into the website, the window is called ‘Employee-facing registry content’. There’s almost nothing there. Did you all find out from actual letters sent to your home? Email? or logging into the website?
@peony13 So sorry you haven’t heard yet! Fingers crossed you’ll be getting the good news any time now.
@namesdontmattr You’ll probably find out soon! That’s what mine looked like a day or two before the decision was posted. I first found out on the portal, then it came in the mail about two days later. There was no email. So keep checking the portal!
@namesdontmattr keep us updated!
I tried logging into ecampus today and it’s just a blank white screen that reads “No default homepage tab found”
I have the same issue, when I log onto Ecampus, I get this message, “No default homepage tab found (219,7438)”. From what I’ve read from the previous transfer forums and freshman applicant forums, this usually means that a decision is coming very soon.
