Transfer for Fall 2014

My son is applying for Fall 2014 from Hofstra, engineering major, will be a junior. Is there on campus housing for transfers, and do you know like where he would be placed? Like suites or what? Any other advice would be appreciated, thanks.

There’s no specific housing for transfer students, but your son could live anywhere he wants: there’s more apartment-style housing in Susquehanna and Hillside, suite-style housing in Dickinson and Hinman or hallway-style housing in Newing and CIW. He also has the option to find off-housing apartment if he wants. You can find more info on the Bing Res Life website.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

Thank you Theman…do you know if any area has more juniors, or upper class students, or are they all mixed up the same? Don’t want him to feel out of place, like a junior in a predominately freshman area?

Well, Hillside and Susquehanna are all juniors and seniors, as you need X amount of credit hours to live in there. The downside to those communities are that it costs more than comparable off-campus housing. Of course, you’re paying for the convenience of a short walk to class rather than a drive or a bus ride.

The other communities will be more mixed. I myself lived in Newing until my senior year, and I certainly wasn’t the only upper classman.

The best thing you can do, if possible, is to check out the buildings in each community yourself. You can pretty easily piggy back when someone else is entering the building. Have a look around, peek in to the rooms etc. etc.

Thank you, Theman…
