I applied for the fall 2016 transfer way back in July and sent my fall 2015 transcript back in January but for some reason it’s still on my To Do List. Is this normal? I emailed Admissions and they said my application is complete and everything is ready for review. Does this mean they’re not even considering my application since it’s not even updated on solar. Everyone’s getting tabs for new students and I still have an item on my to do’s list…
We haven’t made any transfer decisions yet. Probably this week.
Chris
There has been decisions for transfer students as I got accepted last week. If they say everything is okay you should be fine. Maybe email them again asking why it’s still there? I emailed them about something they were requesting that I already sent in and they took it off. Don’t worry too much. Transfer decisions weren’t supposed to come out until after April 1st. There’s still time for your decision.
Yes, sorry about the confusion there. I was in Iowa last week and didn’t realize.
Chris
@sbuadmissions Would having chose a pass/fail option on a credited course look bad on a transfer application in any way even if that class is outside of your intended major?
No, probably not, provided it’s a small piece of the overall picture.
@Ashdee218, congratulations on your acceptance!
Would you mind posting your stats? Also, what specific items did you send to Stony Brook? Was it just the application and your transcript, or did you also upload things like a letter of recommendation, personal statement, resume, etc?
Also, if you don’t mind, when you got accepted, did you see “College Spring Transcript” listed on your to-do list in SOLAR? I’m asking because I got an email saying I needed to send my Spring transcript in, and that my application would be reviewed on a space available basis once they received it. I think what admissions really wants is a current list of my in-progress courses, or some proof that I’m still enrolled in my current school, but I’m not sure. I certainly hope I receive a decision before the end of the Spring semester.
Is this the case with anyone else?
@collegeCube When did u apply? and when did u send ur fall transcript? Also what was ur gpa and how many credits u had?
I applied in the beginning of the year and my GPA was pretty high, and by the time the spring semester comes to a close, I will have earned 30 credits. What do you guys think about sending in a letter of recommendation? I have a really good one from a professor at a good college. I don’t know if it’ll help me though. The portal says “extraneous documents” are “unnecessary”
The transfer application is entirely based on academics. I don’t think they will consider your letters as a part of your app.
And they asked you for your spring grades because you probably had less than 24 credits at the time of your application.
@sbuadmissions Admissions asked me for my spring grades, and on the portal, it says that I won’t get a decision until I send them in My school doesn’t make Spring grades available until May!
Do you think sending in a recommendation letter could help? I currently work as a research assistant for a P.I. at Columbia, but I don’t attend Columbia. Do you think it would help my application if I included a rec. letter from my P.I.?
We’ll have to wait for spring grades. Have a backup plan for fall just in case, but as soon as your grades are posted, get them to us.
Chris
hey @collegeCube when you checked your solar account did you get a new student folder and then on the “to do list” that you had to send spring grades? Or does it look the same and just say send in spring grades on the list? Also if you don’t mind me asking, what gpa did you apply with for them to ask you to send in spring grades?
@sbuadmissions Thank you for your response. If I don’t get in, I suppose I could stay at my current school for another semester.
Quick question, though: for transfer applicants, it seems as though SBU bases their decision primarily on the contents of the applicant’s transcript.
This is a bit confusing for applicants to the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, because on your website (http://stonybrook.edu/undergraduate-admissions/apply/transfer/) it states that SBU gives consideration to “students who…have participated in science, math, and research competitions”.
How are we supposed to demonstrate that we’ve participated in competitions if all we’re sending in is a transcript? The portal says, “extraneous documents” are “unnecessary” and may slow down processing.
@jsquared2 There’s no new folder; it looks the same, except now it has “college spring transcript” in the to do list. AT the time of my application, my GPA was a 3.9.
I just checked my solar account today and got a New Student folder…
The College Fall Transcript is still on my to do list, I’m not sure why, but I’m praying this means I got accepted…
omg thats good news!! if you call the office they may just take the transcript off your to do list!! congrats (: @jk2129
