Hi, I'm a freshman at Boston College and am thinking about transferring. I am currently looking at somewhre between a 3.4 to 3.8 this semester and would like to transfer to either

Colby College
Bates College
Middlebury College
Skidmore College

(I got into Skidmore RD and am assuming i would get into there again. Wait-listed by Colby and Bates and didn't apply to Middlebury).

I got a 34 on my ACT, had a 3.5 UW high school GPA on an AP curriculum from a good public school, got two 5's, two 4's and a 3 on my AP tests, 800 Math II SAT II, 730 Lit, 650 Biology

I'm really just wondering if i have any chance on the top three schools, and also if i do end up with about a 3.7 this semester, if it would look more impressive coming from BC than from a state school or community college or otherwise. Thank you!

Well I guess I was wondering if most transfer applications are coming from state or community colleges (or just lower-level than BC in terms of reputation) and what my chances were at those schools, especially because I couldn't get into three of them as a high school senior. Input is appreciated (and BC is ranked about 20 spots higher than BU in USnews!)

top schools are always so hard to judge but if you keep your gpa up i don't see why not- you've got solid scores, make sure you've got solid ECs and great essays

What is your major? Liberal Arts schools tend to have low transfer rates but your numbers are very good. Here are the transfer rates for the schools your looking at:

My major is political science. I may transfer out of BC simply because I want a smaller, more personal school that's closer to home and where people are outdoorsy rather than preppy. I'm also thinking about Dartmouth, would I have a chance there?

Well I'm not 100% sure I'm going to transfer, it's just something I'm thinking about...just because I may stay here doesn't mean I should necessarily not apply to transfer and see what happens.

interesting you say that, I'm at a Colorado College which is very similar to the ones you're thinking of transferring to. Im contemplating trying to find a bigger place for Poli Sci and a less hippy like student body. Want to trade? You should be good at Skidmore, I'm surprised you didnt get into bates or colby, middlebury could be an uphill battle but worth a shot!

yes, colorado college would be on my list but I want to be closer to home/in New England rather than a plane ride away. My high school also had a close connection to Middlebury, 5 students went there every year (and for their size, it would be like a class of 300 sending 25 students to Cornell or 15 students to Penn)...obviously Middlebury is my first choice and I think I can write a really convincing essay about why I want to go there (environment there, being close to home, sports, I know tons of people there, small school low student/faculty ratio, etc.). I'm wondering if my GPA will be too low even though I do go to BC, does anyone else have opinions?
