Transfer for Journalism?

I'm at a top 50 (well, according to US News) tech school. I like it here, but I'm sick of everything revolving around science, and I'm also sick of science classes. I want to be a journalist (sports journalist in particular), but my school doesn't offer a journalism major. Here is a summary of college so far:

I'm struggling through mainly science classes right now. I'm taking Comp Sci I, Physics I, and International Relations. I will probably get a C or B in Computer Science. In Physics I'll get a C, and in IR i should get a high B or low A.

I'm on a varsity sports team (D3) here, and I'm going to start writing for the school paper after Thanksgiving.

Next semester's classes probably won't be a big problem...I should be able to get pretty solid grades. Unfortunately, I won't be able to take any Journalism classes. Will this be a factor at all?

My high school stats were good. Here they are....copied and pasted from an old chance thread.

White Male
Small public high school in upstate New York.
GPA- 95.07/100
Rank- 7/106; top 10%. Not really competitive compared to some other schools.
SAT Verbal- 620
SAT Math- 700
SAT Writing- 660
Total- 1320/1980 (This is superscored. Highest in one sitting is 1280/1940)
ACT- 32 English, 30 Math, 33 Reading, 32 Science, and 8 essay for a 32 composite

School doesn't offer any APs, just classes affiliated with local community colleges. I have taken one of the most rigorous schedules available at my school, and have accumulated 20-25 college credits.

Awards- 8 Varsity Letters, Rensselaer Medal (probably only a help at RPI), MasterMinds League MVP and 2nd team All-City, All-League selection in outdoor track

ECs- MasterMinds (Trivia team)(9, 10 JV) (11, 12 V) Aforementioned awards junior year
Soccer- (9, 10 JV) (11, 12 V)
Indoor and Outdoor Track (I'm running these at my current school)- (9, 10, 11, 12 V). All-League for outdoor junior/senior year
National Honor Society- (11,12)
Church Worship Band- I have played drums in this band for four years. Probably 120+ Hours
Varsity Club- 12 (should have joined earlier haha)
American Legion Boys' State Rep- 11
Jazz Band/Concert Band- (9, 10, 11, 12)
Club Soccer (9, 10, 11)- About 4 hours/week, 16 weeks/year. That's a rough guess though

So, here's my question. With average/above average grades after next semester at a tech school, will I be able to transfer? After actually looking, I definitely want to apply to Missouri, and also SU (close to my home). Any other ideas? I assume a school with big-time sports would be better for Journalism.

I sure wish I had picked the right school my first time around!

bump (10char)

bump…somebody?

bump…isn’t there somebody that has an idea?

In order to get into the J-School at Mizzou, you need to complete 61 hours of Gen. Ed requirements and have a 3.0 MU GPA. As a transfer, it’s required that you spend a semester there as a “Pre-Journalism” student in Arts & Sciences to establish an MU GPA (and you definitely want as close to a 3.0 as possible). Then you apply for admission to your sequence. I would recommend applying for admission next semester (the deadline is Dec. 1).
