Transfer from another Ivy after one year...?

Is it possible? And by 'after one year' I mean apply from a uni in your freshman year. I've read that i might have to apply as a freshman again since i have less than one full year of college credit, but i could be wrong...

Sure it’s possible, but you would have to identify an academic reason why your desired ivy is better suited to your needs than your current ivy. For example, let’s say you are at Cornell and you really want to study theater, but Cornell doesn’t offer a degree in theater, but Yale does. So, you could clearly state to Yale Admissions why you want to attend their school as a transfer student rather than stay at Cornell. But first you have to fall in love with your current ivy, because to transfer, you will also need about a 3.8+ GPA to be a competitive transfer applicant. And it’s difficult to do that when you’re focusing on transferring somewhere else. You need to fall in love with the school that fell in love with you!

Thank you for the splendid advice (as usual), gibby.

The ‘less than one full year of college credit’ means when you matriculate at H, not when you apply. So if you complete your fr year at another college, you’d apply to H as a transfer, and transfer acceptance rates are even lower than fr admit rates.

If I did not complete my first year at another college and instead applied IN my first year with a semester’s worth of classes/credits, would I re-apply as a freshman?

Yes, but you would lose all your credits (and the money spent earning them). See: <a href=“Transfer Applicants”>https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/application-process/transferring-harvard-college/transfer-eligibility

“Students who will have completed less than one full-time continuous year of study at one college by the anticipated date of matriculation at Harvard should apply as freshman candidates. (All such applicants, if admitted, will matriculate as regular freshmen without any transfer credit.)”

So yes you’ll apply as a freshman but won’t get any credit for the classes you did take in that one semester.

Things to consider. Thanks, again!
