Transfer From Berkeley

I'm a sophomore at Berkeley (despite my username lol) and I want to transfer into Michigan LSA because I don't really feel like this school provides me with a good fit. I feel like Michigan would be a better fit for me and I really like Ann Arbor. Can someone chance me? I know my GPA is low.

Major: Psychology
State of Residence: PA
High School GPA: 3.6
College GPA: 2.9
SAT: 2120

I’m just curious. How did you get accepted to Berkeley OOS with just a 3.6 GPA? Was there some other hook?

I went to a prestigious boarding school with a pretty good amount of grade deflation and I also have a bunch of major awards

I dunno if a 2.9 will cut it. I mean I know UCB is pretty famous for grade deflation and you are doing a lateral transfer as opposed to an upward transfer but you are below a B average right now. I think if you could get to around a 3.2, you should be able to get in. I’ve seen people successfully transfer into Michigan with 3.2s but they all come from schools approximately as hard as Michigan, for example NYU. It all comes down to how well you’re doing this semester.

^ Actually Berkeley has some grade inflation.

anyway, sorry to break it to you, but I don’t think you stand a good chance.

Oh please, they let any knucklehead into LSA.

^^^^^Yeah right.

trade spots with me. i’d take berkeley over michigan any day.

FormerElitist, Michigan and Cal are very different. Both are generally considered two of the top four public universities in the nation, but their campus cultures and settings are very different. For most of us, it is almost always an either/or situation. Many, like me, prefer the vibe on Michigan’s campus and much prefer Ann Arbor to Berkeley, while many prefer the vibe on Cal’s campus and much prefer Berkeley to Ann Arbor.
