Transfer from BU CGS to a different university + more

Has anyone had experience in transferring from CGS (BU) to a different university?
Do the credits transfer?

I think this is a question another university might better answer.

Yeah and why bother going to BU CGS just to transfer. Some may ask why you would wanna go to CGS to begin with..

i think this would be INCREDIBLY difficult to transfer to a school 'better' than BU. also, i doubt a school would really take you till after the second year when your general education courses are done...otherwise, it would be extremely difficult to transfer credit otherwise.

Could you describe why it would be difficult?
I mean attending the 2 years of CGS and then trying for junior status at a different university. What makes it so impossible to do that from BU?

skinnyfist's point is, I believe, that CGS has lower standards for admission than CAS at BU so transferring to another school that's "better," whatever that means, would be problematic. If you couldn't get in before, then sure doing well at BU is a help but . . . I gather your idea is that you go through CGS because BU is the "best" school you're in now and then you try to trade up. You can't seriously expect people at BU or connected to BU to know what other schools think of transfers out of CGS to another university.

no, no--i didn't mean to discourage anyone for having lower stats. what i meant was, cgs has a set curriculum to get the general education requirements out of the way. since those courses are contained within a specific department, it would be hard to grant the appropriate credit at another university.

Sorry I read your note wrong. But none of us has any idea how another school would view those classes. They might view them exactly the same as their own, as better, as worse, as applicable, as non-applicable. With transfers, as skinnyfists knows, you have two issues: getting in and then what you get credit for. Each school has its own policies for both.

and i'm still waiting...

though i don't care if they only accept 4 credits.

Best of luck.

I agree with your point about not trying to discourage anyone. The problem I have with this thread is that transfer out of BU is a question for some other school. I understand some of the anxiety about making the right choice but . . .
