I was wondering if anyone has had any/heard of any success with transferring from Cal Poly Pomona to Cal Poly SLO?
I’m currently a sophomore student. My GPA is 3.95 and I am a Mechanical Engineering student. Just want to see if there’s any hope of making that transfer.
CSU to CSU transfers aren’t common, as the whole system is set up to take transfers from community colleges. I’d call admissions and ask. They are very friendly and helpful. Good luck.
With a 3.95 and the right classes, there’s no reason not to apply but, they don’t take a lot of transfers from anywhere (just 1758 last year) and have a state mandated preference for ‘local’ CC students - not leaving a lot of seats for transfers from elsewhere.
If they don’t take you, stick with CPP and know you are getting a great education and a very credible degree.
I have not heard of anyone switching into SLO in my four years, but then again, transfer students are definitely a small portion of the student body in SLO and you’d be hard pressed to spot them out in public. Your GPA seems within range to be considered for transferring into the college of engineering.
That said, if you get into SLO, great, but if not, do not worry. CP Pomona is a very very good school and there is lots of opportunity there as well. Although CP SLO has a slightly better reputation on average, on an individual level, a student at CP Pomona can surpass someone at SLO if they work harder and take advantage of their opportunities.
It seems like you’re doing well with a 3.95 and CPP’s proximity to LA opens up many job opportunity doors.
