Transfer from CC or 4 Year?

I want to get into a top engineering school. But should I transfer from a CC or 4 year? If the 4 year isnt a reputable school, would it help? Im talking about 4 year universities like University of Wisconsin Greenbay or Milwaukee. Also, Milwaukee is a little better than Greenbay, so would it be wise to attend Milwaukee instead of Greenbay?

How much does reputation help in transferring? If the 4 year college isnt reputable, is there a point in attending a 4 year rather than a CC?

Also, lets say i got into one of these schools: Calstate Long Beach, PSU, UW Greenbay, UW Milwaukee. Are all these schools worth choosing over CC?

So you're looking at California, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania as far as states, right? Then no, don't attend one of those state universities because you'll be paying more than you need to and I know that community college applicants get priority in California for sure and it is likely the same in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, but you'd need to check those two.

Hold a high GPA at a CC for a year (or two, depending on your high school performance) and follow the transfer criteria (programs, specific courses) to transfer into the engineering program at either UW-Madison, Cal, UCLA, or PSU...wait, you're saying that you might get into PSU? That's a pretty badass engineering program buddy. What schools are you wanting to transfer into? The only time CC helps in the process is if you wanna go to a state school.

I'm not reall familiar with the Engineering programs at any of those schools. However, I would say that if you are trying to transfer to a UW school (assuming you are from Wisconsin) try to transfer to UW-Madison. They have more of a national name if you are ttrying to transfer to another college after that.

from my experience working with admissions at my school, here's what appears to be the trend:

top-25 school vs. CC - the top school with most likely win, unless there's a large GPA difference, like a 4.0 from a CC vs. a 3.3 at the elite. Also, a 3.5 from Northwestern has a solid shot while a 3.5 from a CC is on the edge.

everybody else vs. CC - not much of a difference. CC students generally aren't looked upon as 'lesser' of applicants.

no, i mean transferring from a 4 year college like PSU, UW Greenbay, Milwaukee, SUNY, etc. Rather than transferring from a CC

P.S. I want to transfer to top engineering universities like U Illinois Urbana Champagne, Berkeley, Michigan U, Georgia Tech, MIT, Stanford, Cal Tech

for the public schools that you are interested in, you should go to that state and enroll in a CC, get a good GPA, and follow their requirements to basically ensure acceptance. For private universities, you need to just do well wherever you go.

Thanks for the responses.

But, for transferring into a private university, what is better?

Doing well in a mediocre 4 year and then transferring? Or transferring from a CC?
If I had same GPA and everything else, which would be better?
