Transfer from CC to a Medium size University. Help please!

My name is Jacob and I currently attend Orange Coast Community College in Southern California. I am doing really well at the moment, and I am looking into universities I can transfer to in the near future. I would like to get my major in Wildlife Biology/Biology/Animal Biology (still open on a ** major), ultimately going to Veterinary school. I planned to transfer to UC Davis from my community college, but I have chosen to leave that till Grad school/Vet School. I would like a medium-sized west coast university that has an excellent biology and research program, but I would be open to other states (I love the mountains). It is really important to me to be in close contact with professors and being able to do a lot of research. I am open to both Private and Public universities, but I just don't know where to go from here. Humboldt State University and UC Davis are the ones I know really well. I would also like people to be realistic, thanks!

What can your family afford? What are your college grades like?

3.5-3.8 First semester of College, second semester I am getting a 4.0 no problem though.

Wildlife Biology - University of Montana
Animal Biology - University of Idaho, Wyoming, Humboldt, Davis

Others worth considering, especially pre-vet, but big: WSU, OSU

Cal Poly SLO also has a good animal science department, and is far less expensive than any of the schools on your list.
