I am currently attending a CC in California as a second year hoping to transfer to UC Berkeley for Fall 2013 as a physics or astrophysics major. I think my issue right now is having all the major prerequisites done prior to transfer. It's been really tough getting classes at my CC because of budget cuts and everything so I JUST got my 5A calculus class for Fall 2012. That means if I manage my schedule correctly and there are no registration problems, I'll be able to finish at least Calc A & B, Physics 1 & 2 and hopefully chemistry 1A by the end of Spring 2013. Do you think applying for UCB or any other UC for that matter is a bit of a stretch with only those prereqs? I've asked a couple of counselors but they've been giving me mixed suggestions. One said that I should finish every major prereq before transfer even if that means staying at the CC for a third year and another told me to apply with my completed IGETC (which I have) and as many major prereqs as I can do. Also, that brings me to another question: is the cap for the number of credits at 70? If I do stay another year to complete all the prereqs, I'll definitely have more than 70 units. So what do you think my chances are in getting into UCB or any UC as a physics major? Should I stay for a third year to finish all my major prereqs? If it helps any, I'm a girl and I qualify for and am receiving financial aid.
