Transfer from Community College to Stanford

Hello Everyone!

Before i stat i am fully aware of the acceptance rate of transfer students to Stanford (1%) but i would like to know WHY Stanford asks for your high school transcript/SAT scores. I did not do so well in high school and i wasn't in any other extra curricular activities. i now attend a community college and i am doing well. i have a 3.8 GPA (plan on changing it to a 4.0) and am a full time student. I took the SAT once just in case i wanted to attend a state school but didn't do well and decided to not try again (everyone gets a bad score their first time). i do not understand why Stanford wants to see my high school grades and SAT score do you think these will affect my chances of getting in? my high school GPA was like a 2.0 ( i know really bad!) but i am hoping Stanford will see how i changed my life/grades around for the better. I need advice! Thank you!!!!!

As with fr admissions, S wants to make a comprehensive assessment of an applicant’s academic, personal and EC history. Your HS gpa and standardized test scores are taken into the context of the rest of your application. For instance, HS gpa & test scores will likely have different implications for a soph transfer with 1 sem/qt of college completed when they apply, compared to an older student with 2 years of college work and perhaps some gap experience working/volunteering/military/etc. after HS.

S is not different from many other highly selective privates that also require a HS record and testing from all applicants.

Thank you for the clear up! Do you think even with my not so excellent GPA or SAT score i can still get in? I volunteer and i am in the Honors Society Club at my CC. I feel like i have a good “background story” that will help me stand out. This is my first year in CC and I plan on transferring my second year of CC. What do you think? will my horrible high school grades be the death of my chances at Stanford?

If you apply to Stanford during your second year in CC, your HS stats and SATs will not be a major impediment if your CC GPA, ECs, and essays are as competitive as the rest of the other applicants.
