Transfer from Cornell to Williams, Columbia, Swat, Brown

So I'm a freshman at Cornell in the ILR School and have really noticed it's not for me. I think Cornell is too large, I've had some bad experiences with profs, it's a really pre-professional place and I feel like I haven't found my intellectual or social niche here yet. I've decided to transfer to smaller, undergraduate focused universities (Brown, Columbia) and liberal arts colleges like Swarthmore or Brown. Does anyone know if a 3.8 from Cornell will make me competitive? Are any of these schools really transfer friendly? Thanks for your thoughts!

Are you a sophomore or a junior?

I’ll be applying for the class of 2015, so a sophomore

I don’t think any ivies are transfer “friendly”, but Columbia does have a higher acceptance rate than Brown. Just have good reasons and you’ll have a great shot.

I am sorry your experience at Cornell has not been great. Cornell is a large university, sometimes freshmen do feel lost initially. I am wondering if you have considered to transfer to CAS? My daughter was a math/econ major there. Initially classes were very large, but as she started to take more advance courses, classes get smaller. Cornell is more pre-professional than other liberal arts schools, but you probably would find Columbia is probably more pre-professional than Cornell due to its location.

Go ahead and put in your transfer applications, but I would suggest for you to give Cornell another chance. Sometimes it takes a new student up to a year to adjust, just knowing you have options could often change your attitude. I would encourage you to look into transferring to CAS. If you really want to transfer, list everything you do not like about Cornell, and make sure the new school wouldn’t have those attributes.

Are you taking a year off?

If so, what are you doing, anything that would help your application?

Be aware that B is need-aware for transfers.

Actually, yes. I’m on a medical leave from Cornell- the place really got to me and I kind of just shut down, so I really don’t think returning to any program is a viable option for me.
