I never applied to Yale senior in HS, but am VERY interested in transferring to Yale next year from Cornell. I do know that it's very difficult (around 4%), but was wondering if coming from Cornell gave me an advantage of some sorts??? Or a disadvantage???

What does Yale want to see from a transfer applicant? Is a perfect GPA a must? Does Yale recognize that Cornell is KNOWN for its rigorous curriculum and that a 4.0 is VERY VERY VERY rare?

a perfect gpa is not a must, but a near perfect one (3.8, 3.9) is. Coming from Cornell will be an advantage both because of the caliber of the school, and because its known for grade deflation.

eh, you seem to just be prestige hunting. Classes at Cornell have only been in session for two days and freshmen have only been on campus a few days total. Half of the classes havn't even started yet. And, ahem, you've made threads asking about Cornell's prestige against some top-5 colleges.

Regardless, unless you accomplish something incredible in a very short amount of time at Cornell (1 semester), I wouldn't bet on a transfer to Yale regardless of your GPA. Yalie transfers typically have something that stems far from just their transcripts that gets them in.

Yeah, are you a freshman? That's kind of sad. The minute you get to Cornell, you want to transfer to Yale? Most likely, you won't get in because it's apparent you're just trying to go up a prestige level rather than for some tangible reason. Have fun explaining to them why you didn't apply senior yr, and all of a sudden you just know that Yale is perfect for you, while Cornell isn't.

I really like Cornell so far. But if my interests change from science to drama, would Yale not be the best choice? By the way, thanks for your wonderful tact, ballerina.
