transfer from east coast?

Hi!,

I was wondering if anyone knew why it seems there are so few east coasters at cmc..maybe just bc it's so small and not all that well known in the east? I'm going back and forth between going to cmc in the fall as a junior transfer or staying at my current school on the east coast (i'm originally from long island)...everyone keeps telling me it's a huge culture shock, but i don't think visiting now would do much since school's out and all and i'm sure it's gorgeous there.. anyone have any thoughts? i'm leaning towards going, think the (prob massive) change will be welcome- think it'll be hard to meet people on campus?

thanks so much!

There aren't as many East Coasters at CMC simply because CMC gets so many great applicants from the western states. Think about the fact that 1/8 of the US population now resides in California and that 95% of the college students in our country stay within 500 miles of home to go to college. Many western states students don't like the East Coast and culture, so they stay on this side of the country for college.

If you decide to go to CMC, by no means are you going to be the odd one out by coming from the east coast. There are tons of kids from the east coast. Yes, 1/2 of the student body comes from Cali and the other half come from all over the US (and world). As for culture shock, from what I hear, and I may be completely wrong---- it's harder for a socal kid to move east than a east coaster to move west. Mainly due to weather of course.
