Hi,

I am most definitely going to go to UCSB through freshman admit. However I was accepted to electrical engineering, and would like to switch into computer engineering. Any idea how hard it is? I think it should be easy because of ECE department. Also, how would I go about changing it? I'm planning to go to the freshman jump start program in august 1st as well.

Thanks!

Hi,

I’m a Computer Engineering major right now at UCSB. I think it should be doable, but to be 100% sure you should call them and confirm. As far as I know, the hardest one to transfer to, even if you’re in the CoE, is Mechanical Engineering where there’s a waitlist and such. Again - I’d recommend calling to confirm it for sure though.

Thanks! I ended up emailing the undergraduate adviser for ECE/CS, and he told me that all I have to do is get a 3.0 or above in the following courses: "Satisfactory completion at UCSB, with a grade point average of 3.0 or better, of any five classes, including at least two Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) classes and two Computer Science (CMPSC) classes, from the following: Math 4B or 5A, ECE 2A-B-C, ECE 15A, CMPSC 16, 24, 32, 40. "

Basically the exact same courses I would have taken anyways.

As a question for you: How hard did you find math 4a (linear algebra)? I’m planning to take it over summer in the FSSP program.
