Do you all think a transfer FROM Emory to UNC or UVA would be a step down? I know Emory is ranked higher, but I want to study business, particularly finance, and UNC and UVA rank considerably higher for banking fields and are at least $15k cheaper/year even for OOS. I am not satisfied with Emory and have strong connections to UNC and UVA and think they are a better fit. Also what do you think my chances would be at Ivies if I am 2200 SAT, projected 3.75 freshman GPA? Thanks for any and all input.
Absolutely not. UVa is one of the highest ranked public universities in the country. You can throw around the term “Public Ivy” if you’d like; there’s no denying that it is a top institution.
It should be a no-brainer for you at this point. Cheaper, better for the major you intend… Apply, pal! You have a pretty solid chance of getting in.
@AGoodFloridian Thanks for the response. Do you think UNC is on the same level? Also are you familiar with business school admissions for UNC or UVA and how a transfer would impact my chances at getting accepted to McIntire or Kenan Flagler?
Would transferring from a prestigious school like Emory help admissions chances to other top schools such as Michigan or USC? I’m also interested in finance but I feel as if Emory just does not feel like home (coming from the north, I hate the south past north carolina). I have a 3.5 projected freshman gpa (3 A’s and 1 C) with lots of EC’s, rigorous second semster (calc 2, 2 200 level classes and more), great essays and recommendations, and strong hooks (URM, low income, living with bell’s palsy) P.S. I was rejected from both these schools last year but I feel as if a 3.5 from emory would help my chances (USC was very close imo and rejection letter stated to try transferring after 1 year), as well as my essays about bell’s palsy (diagnosed with the disease in college and using supplement essays to show how it has helped me grow as a person). Btw I would be applying to USC Marshall and Michigan LSA.
UNC has much more connections to Charlotte (one of the top cities for finance) than Emory does. The alumni is also much larger at UNC than Emory, so I wouldn’t say it is a step down. You also gain one of the best all around college experiences you can find. Same goes for UVA. All 3 schools are very prestigious and their business programs are very hard to get into (with the exception for Goizueta). But cross-campus transfers are always much easier than out of college transfers. As a result, I think UNC and UVA would be much more fun, enjoyable, and beneficial for you than Emory.
Wait are you a freshman that currently goes to Emory? Which hall are you in? What schools are you considering?

UNC is definitely reputable. I dont think its a step down
Only on CC would people ask if leaving Emory to attend UNC or UVA would be a step down. All 3 have top business schools. You need to go with the best fit.
UVA is a reputable school
@pompeyfan9797 That doesn’t seem like a step down, since UNC and UVA are both highly respected. What do you not like about Emory? I’m wondering as someone who might potentially attend. I’ll also likely be a business major, so your experience would be relevant to my case.
I just got to Emory and I love it - Goizueta is fantastic. What don’t you like?
