I have been admitted into UCLA Engineering. (Congrats to those who received acceptance letters & best wishes to those who didn't.) In the four months since I submitted the application, I thought more about my future path and decided engineering is not for me. My question is whether or not it is possible to transfer to the College of Letters with an acceptance from Engineering?

Yes, I believe it’s possible to transfer from HSSEAS to Letters and Science (probably easier to do than the reverse, although it also depends on what major you want to switch to, if it’s competitive like biz-econ).

What made you decide that engineering was not for you, without having taken any engineering classes at the university level?

Edit: This might be what you are looking for: http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/counseling/change-major.html

Thanks for the link. I never committed to engineering and decided that econ may give me more opportunities to pursue my aspiration. Do you know if it’s possible to transfer in time for the freshman semester?

If you’re sure that you don’t want to do engineering then the earliest you could change might be during orientation, but if that doesn’t work try early in the fall quarter or beginning of winter quarter. The form looks like it needs a signature or two so you may have to wait until the school year starts. It shouldn’t be a problem if you’re not able to switch by fall quarter, just take classes that will count for the major you want to go into, or some GEs.
