I want to pursue my education in Medicine, I find Baylor College Of Medicine very suitable for me.
I live in Houston Tx.
Truly I cannot afford Rice university.
But is there any chances to transfer to some good school with full scholarships,

So Please Give some advices, Rate my chases and stuff like that.

Are you a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident. If so, Rice will meet your full need with thier large endowment and you will get a lot of need based aid to allow you to afford Rice.

Also, you will probably have to take some loans, but you may graduate with $20 or $25k of debt at most, which you can easily pay off with a Rice education.

Yeah, you seem fairly qualified for Rice. Don’t worry about how many “hours” you have served volunteering/working. That is not what really counts too much. Try to get involved on campus and to do some research, if possible (maybe REU). Get great recommendations and focus your effort on maintaining that GPA.

It doesn’t matter that much where you went to undergrad for Medical School (except for a few ones like Harvard, Johns Hopkins) - the process is based on numbers (GPA, MCAT) and research experience. Go where you can shine and if you feel you are challenged and taking advantages of all the opportunities, you can stay where you are.

You can take debt to go into medical school, but if you can get more FA, it will be better obviously. Don’t take on over $40k or so for undergrad debt because you don’t know what kind of doctor you will become or even whether you will get into medical school in your first application attempt.

One what bothers me UHD(My College is Tier 3) Can I get Into Top 20 Med school From this school having good GPA,Mcat, research and other qualification?

The UH’s Main Campus is Tier 4, so I don’t see how UHD can be a Tier 3. I’ve only know one person who has transferred from UH (Main Campus) to Rice and she had 4.0 GPA, 2100+ SAT, and some avg. EC’s.

You could probably get into some good med schools (Tier 3, maybe even Tier 2) but I doubt it for the Tier 1 schools.

Narmark, don’t listen to all the naysayers! I am transferring from an UNRANKED (not even a Tier 2 or Tier 3 or Tier whatever!) 4-year Texas public school to Rice this fall, so it obviously didn’t hinder me. Rice seeks individuals from diverse backgrounds. If you can deomonstrate that (1) you are a scholar and an intellect and that (2) you are an interesting person, you have the ability to be admitted. Rice is less numbers-driven than people believe; it’s the INTANGIBLES that will get you in. The Rice application is also very thorough, requiring four different essays, and sadly, most applicants are too lazy to deliver quality work. If you toil over it (as I did) and deliver polished work, I have no doubt that you will be a successful applicant. The biggest hurdle for you, actually, might be that you are a non-native English speaker (which might be reflected in your writing abilities). I sincerely hope that’s not the case though (if it is, you will seriouslyneed to invest the help of others to improve your essays).

As for scholarships, Rice doesn’t offer merit scholarships for transfers. However, it will meet 100 percent of your financial need as demontrated by FAFSA/CSS Profile entirely in the form of grants if your parental income is below 80k. If your parental income is above 80k, there will be student loans capped at 2.5k offered in the package. I personally have found Rice to be very affordable and inshallah (haha, yes, there are other Muslims on this board) I will graduate with no debt. I hope the same for you! If you have any questions about Rice, let me know. :)

Escapist, Thank you very much for you detailed reply and willing to help although you don`t know me. I wold say the words above were one of the most inspirational writing for me.
Accept my congratulations about your acceptance to that great school. Do your best.

I have a question here. The student loan of 2.5k. What does it mean? they will offer me to lend 2.5k OR i will graduate with 2.5k per semester?
Could you tell me do i need to take Toefl IBt? i have preparation for it but I have not taken it. SATs; I am quite sure that i can score near to perfect, but the verbal can be little challenging for me. In spare time I am preparing for verbal MCAT are the verbal in MCAT and SAT similar?

Thank You very Much Again, your words just made me happier for a long time.
Hope to be at the same school as you are ))))))

A lot of students from where got into those schools? UHD? Highly doubt it.
You pretty much have a shot at any med school though if your stats are 35+ MCAT & 4.0 GPA, so no reason to get discouraged. Just work hard when you get to Rice and get that MCAT score to 35 and you’re golden.

If your household income is over 80k, you will receive an ANNUAL package that consists of a student loan of 2.5k, work-study of 1800, and the rest of your need fully covered in the form of grants. Say your “financial need” determined by Rice is 35k, for example. Then, you can expect an aid package of 2.5k in loans, 1800 in work-study, and 30,700 in grants for one academic year. (Note: If your income is under 80k, the loans in the package will be entirely replaced by grants).

You will need either the SAT or ACT to transfer into Rice. I’m not sure about the TOEFL–you may want to call and ask.
