I’m currently a freshman here at MSU and I’m not happy at all. I’ve made friends and joined clubs, but nothing here makes me want to stay. Everyone here says how much they love campus and being here, but I don’t feel the same way at all. I dread coming back when I go visit friends at other colleges or go home. MSU wasn’t my first choice for a college, but I thought it would grow on me. Going on three months, I still don’t want to be here. On the other hand, Oakland University is closer to my home and is a much smaller campus, which is what I need. I plan on telling my parents after this semester how miserable I am and then waiting until after this academic year to see if I still want to transfer. Any thoughts/advice?
Even though I am a strong advocate of reaching out of your comfort zone, if you really are as miserable as you say then do not continue another semester at Michigan State. Oakland University is a great university, and if your major is Engineering or Nursing, then you definitely need to go there! I have two older brothers, both Engineering majors and one goes to Oakland U and the other attends MSU and both would agree that they are having the times of their life, except brother 1 enjoys the smaller campus life and intense engineering classes at OU while brother 2 enjoys the large campus and the diverse amount of people found throughout, while still enjoying the intense classes. It really depends on your preferences dude, I’ve decided to go to MSU as a freshmen for fall 2017 because I’m like brother 2 and love meeting new people and the huge campus. If you’re like brother 1 who would rather attend a smaller university and still receive an amazing education and a great 3-4 years, OU is the place for you!
