Transfer from MSU to U of M winter 2011

Hi,

I was wondering how difficult it is to transfer to U of M from MSU. The classes I have been taking at MSU have been mostly engineering (calc 2, calc 3, calc based physics, chemistry w/lab, and the intro engineering courses that MSU offers) and I have earned a 3.57 gpa for the fall semester and I am on track to receive at least the same marks this semester. I was planning on taking my remaining prerequisite courses at a community college in order to save some money this upcoming fall.

My specific questions are how hard is it to transfer, should I transfer to LSA and do a cross campus transfer or should I apply directly to engineering?

Also I was planning to study mechanical engineering.

Thanks

in my experience talking to those who have transferred, it is usually easier for engineering major to transfer in with lower marks if they were taking engineering classes…ex.my coworker got into UofM with a 3.1 gpa after 2 years of engineering classes and a few prereqs at a local community college. If you are instate it will be easier. I don’t know if he was the exception or what, but they university understands it is harder to get top grades in classes like calc 3 etc. This is a reason the average gpa for lsa transfers is higher than engineering. However, I believe for an engineering transfer you need certain classes fulfilled to even be considered. I’d check that out and make sure it is all done…
