I'm currently a freshman at NYU, doing Pre-Med in CAS.; now I'm certain I want to switch to Finance. I could apply to Stern, but I'm scared to hell that I won't get in and that I'll rot in pre-med forever.

My stats:

High School GPA: OK (3.1 something)
First Sem GPA: 3.7~3.9
I'm sure I'm hitting a 3.8~4.0 next semester.
SAT: 2100
SAT II and AP - I only took bio (750, 4)

I love NYU and everything in the city, but I don't think I'll get into Stern purely because of my high-school record. I can write a fairly awesome essay though...

Transfer is probably my only option. I don't know what I can get into, and I'd love it if you could help me out. Just a couple of names that I can try for...I'm don't think I'm good enough for Michigan...But If you think I should try for Stern, drop that in too please.

Why not take an elective with Stern? Do amazing and get the prof to write you an awesome recommendation. I think they would let you in being from NYU already. WOW CAS with a 3.1. Your essay skills must be amazing.

I second Trojans comment. Economics from CAS won't be as good as finance from Stern for jobs, but if you do the legwork and maintain a good GPA you'll be able to get into the door at more than a few places.
