Transfer from out of State?

Hi guys, I go to a 2 year private college in Illinois that’s in the process of becoming a four year school but I’ve always wanted to go to a UC or maybe a private university in califnornia. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and should be able to maintain it for the most part. The schools I’m really interested in are UC Davis, UCSB, UCLA, and USC. Now I know the UC’s are hard to transfer into from out of State, really hard. With my high GPA, what could my chances be? Would I have a higher chance of just trying to transfer to USC, or POSSIBLY even Stanford? UCLA would be my top choice as it has the best Political Science program. Any feedback would be great. I talked to a UC Davis admission counselor and she said as long as I had above a 3.7 I’d be a pretty good chance of being accepted, but I see other people on here saying it’s super hard. Any ideas? I guess I should also add I run track and cross country at the CC I’m at now so that takes up A LOT of time.

Yes getting into UCs from out of state is insanely hard. If you want to transfer to one your best bet is going to CCC and gaining residency requirements.

I think you would have a chance but it would be flimsy at best. Additionally, your extracurricular activities don’t exactly relate to your major so that doesn’t help; especially since most of the competitive transfers will have 4.0s and will be able to differentiate themselves through personal statements and ECs. It also doesn’t help that being out of state means you’re going to have lowest priority.

Not exactly sure what this means. If it is about getting the favored California CC transfer status, this works. However you will not get residency for tuition purposes no matter how long you live in CA. Read the detailed requirements for tuition at resident rates on any UC registrar web page.

With a 4.0, the right classes and competitive EC/essays, You should be a competitive candidate for any of the UCs.

Stanford takes very few transfers so, apply but, don’t expect much. You will probably have a decent shot at SC.
