I'm a sophomore at Pepperdine and I'm really unhappy, not quite miserable but just not enjoying college the way I had should. I'm from Nevada, puerto-rican, and catholic and it just seems to me like almost everyone here is a SoCal WASP and they've formed such strong cliques that they won't let anyone in who isn't snobbish, materialistic, rich, and extremely preppy, and I thought I was preppy. Plus most of the classes that I've taken have not been too great, not bad just way too easy and the professors have been detached, again not what I thought it would be at all from the college brochures and guide books. So anyway so you get the picture, my social life sucks and I'm not getting the rigorous education the school's promised so, in short, I don't like it here at pepperdine and I want to leave. So my question is how is UCLA when it comes to accepting out of state transfer students from a private college? I know that if I were to go to a community college I'd be able to go to UCLA almost for sure, my gpa is 3.9 and I had really good high school stats, but how about for someone outside of the public higher education loop? thanks

Transfer, you have a great GPA. If some one from a community college can transfer with a 3.2 GPA then you have a good chance. But what makes you think that you'll be happier at UCLA? Catholic, are there any on UCLA campus? I know there are a bunch of Christian groups, which consist of mostly Asian kids. High school stats don't matter when transferring to a public school, at least not in Califas.

hahahahahahahahaha......One of my friends said the same ****.

check your pm

There are tons of Catholics at UCLA. There is a very active Newman Center right smack in the middle of Sorority Row. don't forget UCLA has about 12% hispanic population, and as you know, most hispanics are Catholic. Well, actually there are tons of everything at UCLA, since there are about 36,000 combined undergrad and grad on the same huge campus -- Pepperdine is not 10% the size of UCLA.

With a 3.9 you might be able to aim higher than UCLA. You might look at other top schools as well.

ok i'm catholic but i'm not by any means a zealot looking to convert anyone, which i don't even know how many catholic zealots there are anyway. i only mentioned the religious part because there is quite a few people at pepperdine, a very loud minority, that keep telling me that i worship the pope and mary and that i'm going to burn in hell and rot for eternity and that's getting old really fast. um what other schools should i look for that are similar to ucla but still in california for back-ups? thanks again everybody, i'm really hoping i can become a bruin next year because i don't want much more of anything to do with pepperdine.
oh and 2 more things: first how integrated is the campus, i'm latino but i associate with a diverse crowd, mostly white and latino but asians, blacks, and foreigners too and how hard is it too transfer into the college of the liberal arts because i'm a classics and economics double major, not business economics?

Also consider USC, UCSB, UCSD, San Diego State, Chico State. I haven't heard of any Catholics on campus, it's mostly those Christian kids that come up to me to talk about the word of God.

Student Body:

* <1% American Indian/Alaskan Native
* 41% Asian/Pacific Islander
* 4% Black/Non-Hispanic
* 14% Hispanic
* 34% White/Non-Hispanic
* 3% Non-Resident Alien
* 4% Race/ethnicity unreported

Mostly white and asian kids.

I'm considering USC but it looks like its more of the same that I'm dealing with at Pepperdine, rich and snobby brats plus I've heard the financial aid at USC is not good and I'm pretty broke. I'm going to apply for transfer to most of the UCs aside from Riverside, Santa Cruz, and Merced when I apply to UCLA, but not Chico State, I don't want to down grade.
please keep the posts coming!

For USC if you have over 30+ credits they won’t look at your gpa. Anyway I’m going to Pepperdine in the spring. What can I look forward to?

thanks
