Transfer from Pratt to Trinity

i was accepted to pratt, but after an internship at an engineering firm and taking ap physics c and calc bc, i have realized engineering is not for me as much as i used to think it was. how would i go about switching schools? should i call them now, or wait till i get to campus?

wait till you get to campus- it is very easy to transfer out

And maybe, just maybe, try out an engineering class before deciding...

you register for classes over the summer, right? so would i register for classes in trinity but officially be a pratt student? you i have to take any pratt classes?

I think usually people take a semester of pratt classes and then transfer to trinity. the required first year pratt courses are

1) A Math (31/32/103/107)
2) EGR 53

I think if you are absolutely sure you want to transfer to trinity, you can skip the EGR53 (though I highly recommend the class, especially with Dr. G). That should leave 3 spots open during the fall for your trinity requirements like a seminar, writing 20, whatever. You still might need to take a math though.

It is very simple to switch out of pratt. I currently have the form sitting on my desk, I'm just too lazy to fill it all out and have my meeting with Dean Simmons (as you can tell by me being on CC).

^Haha after AP Physics and Calc BC I too decided that engineering was not for me! Luckily, I applied to Trinity to begin with though :-

but is there a way to transfer from pratt before i get to duke, b/c i really would rather not take an eng. class if i know i wont continue on that track?

Know that I am booing in my soul as I write this...

but the school to which you apply is somewhat irrelevant to your decision of what courses to take, with the exception that Trinity people who want to transfer into Pratt do have to satisfy the Trinity early seminar requirement while Pratt people who want to Transfer into Trinity do not. You won't be required to take an engineering class...though that is an interesting idea for Class of 12 and beyond (insert evil grin here)

thank you dr.g. and nothing against engineering, my father is an engineer, its just not for me.

here it says you can only transfer after your first year, not semester- http://www.pratt.duke.edu/undergraduates/policies.php#51

and are freshmen forced to stick to this schedule?- http://www.pratt.duke.edu/undergraduates/first_year_plan.php

The transfer will only be official after the first year or later; regardless, you can take what you want.
