I'm currently a sophomore hoping to transfer to bu or nyu in the spring. I was wondering if any of you could possibly tell me what kind of chances I have with my stats. I know high school stats aren't weighted as much after freshmen year but I'll put them here anyway.

HS:
GPA: 3.6/4
SAT: CR 640 Writing 650 Math 580 ( don't know if i should send these or not/ they're not required but i'm not sure if it would help to send)
Extracurriculars: Volunteered at hospital in pediatrics 40+ hours, Relay for Life, National Student Leadership Conference, and Lead America

College:
Major: Journalism with French minor
Current GPA: 3.715 (3.934 first semester/3.4 second semester) hoping for 4.0 this semester
Hours: 37 hours taken
Extracurriculars: Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Fraternity (for freshmen who earned 3.5 or higher in first semester), National Society for Collegiate Scholars ( for students who receive 3.4 or higher), Frogs for the Cure Music Video for Susan G. Komen, Leader for First Year Students(arrived at school early to help freshmen get acclimated), theCrew (organize and run daily events for students all over campus)
Letter of Rec hopefully from my French prof since I am a French minor and received great grades in her class.
Finished my essay but still need some finishing touches but there is time for that

Any help/answers/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

BU, you’re good for. NYU, there is a good possibility you will be admitted. It seems as if you are looking for schools in big towns. If this is the case, explore other schools in areas you see yourself potentially living in.

I don’t think your SAT scores will help you. Probably only hurt you if you submit them.

Pretty good chance of getting in where you want to. East Coast only or would you consider USC? Personally, I rate USC higher than NYU or BU because they have a stronger alumni network.

Also do you think my degree would mean more if I transferred to NYU, BU, or USC? I just mean that do you think degrees from there will be able to help me have more opportunities for my major?

You really don’t know if you have a shot unless you apply, because so much will come down to soft stuff like essays, recs, how you spin your EC(s), etc.

OK, I see that both BU and NYU are well-regarded for journalism as well. Still, you should be competitive. Getting in to other schools at those universities would be even easier for you.

Thank you very much. @PurpleTitan I’m interested in USC but as I am from the East Coast, my parents wouldn’t be thrilled with me being so far away. I’m at school in Texas right now which is far enough for them as it is. I’m hoping to be accepted into NYU or BU because of the east coast factor as well as their journalism programs. I’m even considering grad school so maybe USC or Columbia are options for that. I want to go to school in a city where I will be able to get internships and job opportunities. I was rejected from BU and NYU in high school so I’m hoping history doesn’t repeat itself.

You should consider USC honestly. I’m from the east coast also, but I’m applying there for journalism because Annenberg is the best of the best in the second largest city in the country. The alumni network is second to none, and there are so many places to intern in LA. Give it some thought! @emily199416

Yeah I figured that out on their sites so that’s a good thing haha! Question, does anyone know what the deal is with USC transfers? On the site it says only fall but some people are offered spring so I was wondering if any of you have any info on that? @NCXfer

Spring transfers are reserved for people who got SGR’s (spring grade request, essentially a wait list) and ended up getting a really late decision I believe. @emily199416
