I’m a student in an American High school. I’ve finished college apps and am waiting on decisions (I’ve gotten into a few). I want to pursue a medical degree and am hoping to finish that degree in the UK. I didn’t apply to the UK because by the time I realised it was an option, the due date was too close for me to take the tests that would have allowed me to apply. (I’m an idiot I know.) I’m deciding on either taking a gap year, but I realised another option would be transferring during my undergrad years.
So my question is- does anyone know if it’s possible to transfer from the US to the UK for medicine? I’m assuming I’d have to take my BMAT/UCAT. Would I still use the UCAS? Help! (I’m a UK/US dual citizen if that helps any so I wouldn’t be going as an immigrant. I can submit stats if that’s also necessary)
Do you plan on practicing medicine in the States or the UK? Also, citizenship is not the determining factor in Fee Status, it is where you reside, and I suspect you will be statused as International.
If you plan on practicing in the States, studying Medicine in the UK is not going to help much/if at all. Contact one of the University Representatives here in the States - look at the University website to find the reps contact info - to discuss the viability of your plan.
Wel, you can’t transfer in the sense of carrying anything over, you would apply for admission to the first year of a medicine degree. Yes, you would still apply via UCAS.
You may find it helpful to google “medicine uk after starting degree elsewhere” - there is a helpful thread at The Student Room which I don’t believe I am allowed to link to directly.
You’ll need to get some decent caring experience sorted as well as top academics.
You need a 5 in AP chem, AP Bio, AP calc and preferably AP physics + lots of experience in health care and helping others in care settings.
You can’t transfer - you’d just take the tests in the Spring then apply by October 15 with whatever AP results+ experience you’d have. You would NOT be qualified to work as a doctor in the US not could you apply to a US med school BUT if you become a full fledged physician in the US you’d be allowed to skip med school and take competitive medical exams in the US. [This is a short version.]
It’s not easy to get in to medical programs in the UK. But you don’t have to finish undergrad in the US to apply to them. In other words, it’s not too late to do so.
