Transfer FROM Tufts - THOUGHTS?

Hey guys,

I am a rising sophomore at Tufts University studying computer science in the School of Engineering, and am looking to do a spring transfer to Cornell as an Arts and Sciences Computer Science Major.

Here at Tufts, I have finished my first year with a 3.55 GPA taking mostly hard intro engineering classes. Also,

  • I am a varsity athlete.
  • Treasurer of a culture club.
  • Peer leader for Asian Americans
  • Dean’s list for Engineers is a 3.2
  • Average engineering GPA is quite low, around a 2.8.

In high school, I had fairly decent stats:

  • 3.8 UW, 4.4/4 W GPA
  • Many strong EC’s (President, Captain in 2 Varsity Sports, NHS)
  • 33 ACT
  • Top 3% of class of ~500

That being said, a lot of applicants have higher GPAs in the 3.7+, so I don’t know how this stacks up. I am highly considering switching into the Arts and Science program here at Tufts, but haven’t really enjoyed my time at Tufts/clicked with the vibe regardless. My schedule for next year includes 5 rigorous classes, that hopefully won’t pull my GPA down below a 3.5 if I work hard enough.

Other Schools I am looking into so far:

  • Rice
  • Northeastern
  • Any other suggestions???

My main concern is will being an Engineer and applying as to the school of Arts and Science HELP me, HURT me, or do neither? Can I apply to both A&S and Engineering? Please let me know what you think!
