I am currently a University of Michigan DEARBORN student in my first semester. I though I would save money by going here and turns out I am but I can not stand to be here. I have an hour drive one way. I live in Ann Arbor and always dreamed of going to Ann Arbor. I did not apply because of my ACT score (20), however I have a 3.8 GPA in High School, with tons of extracurriculars. I was wondering how do I transfer to State or Ann Arbor for my sophomore year. I don't have any of my grades for first or second semester yet so how do I apply? I am going to take more classes this summer at a community college. I really want this to happen. I am a hard worker and the work load/difficulty will not be a problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I need to clarify any more please let me know.

You might want to retake the ACT if you are interested in transferring as a sophomore to Ann Arbor or MSU. Generally retaking standardized tests are not recommended as it is usually not helpful, however in your case, it could be very important as colleges will still lean heavily on your high school related stuff when considering your application. I think that if you can get that score up to a 28 or so, and get a 3.8+ this semester, you should have an outside chance at Ann Arbor for Fall 2013 and a pretty good chance at MSU.

The most important thing to understand, at least when transferring to UM-Ann Arbor, is that credits and GPA are by far the most important thing. The more credits your have, the less your high school material is considered. You might not get into your dream school as a sophomore but if you have around 60 credits and at least a 3.7 by the end of your sophomore year, you should have a very good shot at UM-Ann Arbor as a junior transfer. By the way, your name is awesome. Good luck and Go Blue!

Thanks for the help! I was thinking about retaking the ACT, however I am really bad at taking test. For high school I was very active in my school (school president, robotics team president, JV soccer captain, and so on. If I apply for the summer term of 2013 for MSU do you think that, that would increase my chances of being accepted? I guess what I am getting at is there any way to get around taking the ACT? I took it three times and got the same score and have had harsh feelings for it ever since. If there is no other option then I will be retaking it (I guess). Also if I apply now for the summer of fall term for MSU do i just send in all my High school grades and activities and say that I also go to U of M Dearborn? Sorry if this seems repetitive or annoying I just really don’t like the fact that I am going to U of M Dearborn and want to accomplish one of my dreams. Thanks!

how is dearborn? i might go there because i heard it’s the easiest way to transfer, but Im not sure what college life there is like…( i heard it’s pretty bad).

and yeah, unless you’re transferring junior year, colleges sorta look at your high school gpa and act. you might want to take that test agian…

@richyrich356 don’t transfer to u of m dearborn its terrible i really hate it. Everyone here never has anything good to say about it. it was a big mistake for me and regret doing it.
