Is this possible? There isn't an Architecture major at Irvine and I am just beginning to get interested in the topic. Should I take classes related to an architecture major at Irvine? What if all the classes needed for transferring don't exist at my school? What GPA would I need?

Thank you guys so much! It means a lot to me!!! :)

Does anyone know what I should do? Or any specifics about transferring within the UC system?

I don’t think anybody on this board could chance you, and give you an accurate appraisal. Obviously, if you have a top notch GPA, you have a chance. Your best bet is to wait until November and apply for a Fall 2012 entry. Also, research the quality of the architecture majors at the Cal States, and find some good ones. Start by looking at Cal Poly SLO and Pomona. That’ll improve your chances of getting into a program.

Hello ucgirl14.

I am currently attending a community college studying architecture and planning on transferring this semester to a university with an architecture major. I have done a lot of research on this topic over the last 2 years.

If you are really looking into becoming an architect you will probably want to go to a school where you can get a professional Bachelor’s of Architecture degree. None of the UC schools offer this accredited program from the NAAB accreditation. Although, UC Berkeley does have a professional Master’s of Architecture degree with NAAB accreditation I believe; you would need to pursue a liberal arts degree before attaining this most likely.

The only two state schools in California that offer the professional B. of Arch degrees are Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona. Other schools in California with the accredited include Sci-Arc, NewSchool of Architecture, Woodbury, USC, and I think there are a few more, but they are all private.

Cal Poly SLO’s and Cal Poly Pomona’s are hard to get into as are some of the private schools. Take GE classes that transfer with the CSU schools, check assist.org, and so on. There is much more information, but this will give you a good start.

Thank you guys! I wanted to transfer to a UC because I have fulfilled so many of the UC system GE requirements so far. I got into Cal Poly SLO as an architecture major as a freshman, but I sadly didn’t take it. I just wasn’t sure if that was what I wanted to do. I think that I will try to transfer there as a junior. Thanks again :)
