Transfer from UCSD?

I'm considering transferring out of UCSD. I'm from LA and was accepted into both UCSD and UCLA last year. I chose UCSD because of its focus on science and because it is further away from home than UCLA (I was born on campus, went to preschool and elementary school there, and my dad is a prof there). However, I am regretting my decision because I am not happy here in UCSD. It feels like a factory line full of suffocated boxes, each containing an item code (GPA) and a robotic pre-med student. Almost everyone I meet wants to be a doctor or engineer. While I am a chemistry major, I'm also an artistic person and I hate the fact that everyone is so uncreative and focused on becoming a doctor or engineer. I find myself missing home a lot and dreaming of the times when I get to eat better food, meet my friends from home, and be with my parents.

I was hoping I could transfer into UCLA for next year. Here are some stats:

I like the academics and the opportunities of this UC school; I just don't like the setting to be honest. Do you think I should apply to UCLA for transfer?

Are you confident that you won’t regret your decision to go to UCLA? Many students at UCLA also want to be either doctors or engineers. UCSD has a big student population and maybe you haven’t met the right people. It doesn’t hurt to apply so apply! I’m pretty sure your time at UCLA won’t be worse than your time at UCSD.

Yes. People have a warped image of UCSD being a dream school and next to La Jolla, and supposedly how awesome it is but, they really, really need to visit it because it is not a very nice campus, either aesthetically or socially. DD was accepted and hated the aesthetics but forced herself to go to the new student orientation. She hated the isolated feeling and instead flew to SUNY-Buffalo which she liked a lot better. Even though the students perform and jump through hoops, UCSD is an isolated campus. Transfer home to UCLA, you’ll be a LOT happier.

The deadline for applying to UCLA for Fall Quarter 2014 admission was November 30, 2013.
UCLA only accepts new students (transfers are considered new to UCLA) are only accepted for Fall quarter.
Unless you have some special circumstances, applications will not be accepted until November of 2014, for Fall of 2015.

Can you stick it out for another academic year?
If not, perhaps you may want to consider some of the smaller, excellent private schools closer to home.
