Transfer from UF to FSU

I am currently thinking about transferring to FSU from UF due to a dislike of the Gainesville area and a fondness of the FSU campus and Tallahassee in general. My brother also goes to FSU and after visiting several times I knew that personally I would enjoy the college experience both academically and socially more so at FSU than UF. I was accepted to FSU and UF but chose UF. Problem is that when checking the transfer requirements for FSU it states that you must have a 3.0 at your previous institution and right now I have a 2.5 after 6 credits and do not expect to achieve a 3.0 after the fall semester (I'm taking 4 classes this fall and as of now I am in the B and C range).

Basically I am wondering how lenient FSU is with this requirement (3.0 at previous institution).
My freshmen requirements I believe are good enough to be accept, considering I already was accepted when applying as a freshmen yet chose UF. And my combined college course GPA (from dual enrollment classes) is above a 3.0 which is another requirement FSU has for transfer students.

Although I should probably just call and ask FSU directly, any advice on the situation would be appreciated. =)

A call to admissions would likely give you a better answer. Remind them you were accepted to FSU.

It seems to me you’re going to be competing with every other transfer student and grades matter. You may want to stick it out at UF until you earn your AA, but really I’m guessing as to what the best timing would be.

It could well be you need to give UF a bit more time. FSU is not going to be easier than UF.

Your chances are low at this point. But anything is possible. Call and discuss with an admissions counselor. Better yet, get a copy of your HS transcript and your SAT/ACT scores and your summer term grades and your DE grades and make a visit in person to discuss and review with an admissions counselor. They are likely to say that you need to stay at UF and transfer with an AA, or perhaps take CC/SC classes and get your GPA up and your AA then transfer.

Perhaps if you work your butt off fall and spring, you can apply during spring term for fall 2011. They will likely not review the application until summer and spring grades are in, but a poor first or first and second semester at UF does not bode well for transferring to FSU.
