Hello,
Presently, I am deciding on going to Umass Amherst or Suny New Paltz for my freshman year. I would go to either school for only one year, then transfer to a better school. My question is, Which of the two schools do you believe, would allow me to transfer to a better school? and why? for example, which would be more recognized academically or by name and give me a better chance of getting into a better school?

UMass has a better reputation, however, if you KNOW you’re going to transfer then I would choose the school which offers you instate tuition. Truth is as far as transferring goes, the college you’re coming from matters very little. GPA is really the big deciding factor, so save your money for this one year and get a really good GPA. another alternative if you live in a city(NYC maybe?) which is recommended to anyone who KNOWS they want to transfer is to go to a city for the year to save the most money, or to any college you don’t have to dorm in as that is an extra 10k usually.
