Transfer from UNC to UVA

I looked at previous threads and couldn't find one related to this, hence the new thread.

This fall I will be a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill majoring in Economics and Business (Pre-Business, I will apply to the B School in the fall). I have a 3.91 Major GPA and a 3.79 cumulative (One class lowered my GPA, other grades are all A range) taking tough classes with strong EC's on campus and leadership. I have also done a couple relevant financial internships.

I was initially rejected from UVA as a high school senior, and I'm looking to transfer into McIntire. What do you guys think are my chances? I am hoping that by the time I submit my application to UVA, I will have been accepted into Kenan Flagler (ideal situation).

I'm also looking to send my application to NYU. I would send it to Michigan but you can only transfer in as a sophomore if I’m correct. Any other school you guys would recommend? By the way, I'm an international student but I don't need financial aid.

I know that was a lot of info, but thanks so much for your help, really appreciate it!

do you really want to leave unc, and start over, at uva? they are kind of identical lol but the transition (not knowing anyone, credits possibly not transferring, etc.) almost makes it seem like a step back. nyu, howver, is great because of all those opportunities! :)

shot at nyu?

McIntire is supposed to be insanely hard for out of state transfers (international in your case) to transfer into because there is a VERY small amount of spots available. UNC is a great school, and I think you would be better off remaining there than UVA.

As far as NYU, I really don't know. I am assuming you would be applying to Stern, and based on your stats you should have a fair shot, but it has a very low acceptance rate. Why is NYU the only private you are considering though? It would probably be worth your time to apply to Duke and it is right there since are you already at chapel hill.

hermanns,

I am also considering Duke, but I was second guessing my chances because of the transfer competition there, then again so are all transfers. Thoughts?

UNC has one of the best undergraduate b-programs as far as I know. If u are an in-state student in NC, u are suggested to remain at UNC

He already said he was an international and not in state, but yes I agree sticking at UNC would be the best move. Why go through the stress of transferring if it is unnecessary? With your stats I don't see anyway that you don't get into Kenan Flagler. There are few schools I would consider transferring to if I was in your position, but probably would not bother applying to any of them because it is not really worth the trouble unless you hate UNC for some reason (you don't come across that way though).

As far as Duke, your stats are good, if you really want it I think it would be worth a shot. Like I said though, UNC is a great school and I would say those other state schools are marginally better at best and I would personally much rather live in NC weather than michigan. I imagine the recruiting from NYC (if that is where you want to work/live) would be at least reasonable since a lot of top firms are coming down for duke anyways and it is right there.

Thing is I want to go back to Asia one day, and UNC's overseas reputation isn't as solid as other schools'. I'll definitely go for Duke.
