Hey guys,
So I am currently a sophomore at Notre Dame, and I applying to go to Rice next year, but problem is that freshman year was HORRIBLE. As bad as a freshman year can be, my grades were horrible, but last semester I had a semester GPA of a 3.58, which is a big improvement but my cumulative still sucks. This semester's grades are going to be even better, but I was wondering if anyone had heard of this ending with a successful transfer?

I was waitlisted to Rice as a senior in high school, and this has always been my number one choice.

I think you'll probably get in.
First of all, Notre Dame is a good school...so it would be easier for students from Rice's peer institutions to make adjustment after the transfer.
Secondly, your upward trend shows maturity and as long as you can show them how much you've changed in these few semesters, then they'll be impressed.
Finally, I was in similar situation like you before transferring. I had an F in my freshman year. But I got into Duke, WashU, and Wake Forest...even though Notre Dame rejected me.
So, yeah, I'm really curious abt why you wanna transfer outa ND. I mean, I can only see the bad weather as the only ND's drawback.

Haha yeah, the weather here does suck.... a negative wind chill factor is not really any sort of motivation to want to go to class. There's just a couple of things, that kinda bug me.

I'm originally from Texas, and my family is going through something right now, in which I feel I need to be closer to home. Flying back and forth gets really expensive. And being in Indiana just sucks in general...

I'm not Catholic and while some people claim that it doesn't affect non-Catholic students, it does. They don't serve meat on Fridays because of lent, that doesn't really give any non-Catholic students any choice.

When I went to school, I was hoping to meet tons of different new people, but let's just say that ND is not very diverse at all... Being a minority myself, I found it hard to fit in at first, it's getting better now, but I still kinda feel that wedge...

If I don't get into Rice, I know I can make it here, but Rice has been my first choice, even as a senior in high school.
