So I'm currently enrolled into UC Davis as a computer engineer (planning to switch to CS), and I am about to finish my first quarter here. Quite frankly, I dislike the school and it isn't for me. The infrastructure is in pretty bad shape, the location is extremely inconvenient(literally nothing around here), and classes are too large. I'm planning to do my lower division classes in CC and then transfer into Cal Poly Slo. I wanted to get some second opinions before I go talk to my advisor. Thanks for taking the read and/or respond to this.

Be careful about semester versus quarter system. Both UCD and CPSLO are quarter system, but most CCs are semester system, so if you are taking sequenced courses (e.g. frosh calculus, physics), you may want to complete a year at UCD before changing to a semester system CC. Otherwise, a quarter of calculus may not match up prerequisite-wise to the next semester of calculus, forcing you to partially repeat what you have already taken.

De Anza, Foothill, and Lake Tahoe are the CCs that are on the quarter system.

Check http://www.assist.org to see what CC course work transfers for subject credit to your intended major at CPSLO. Cuesta (a CC in San Luis Obispo) tends to have good coverage of CPSLO courses, but is on the semester system.

I’ve checked assist.org and it says MAT21B (UCD) is equivalent to Calculus 2 (CCSF) as well as the computer science courses.

http://web1.assist.org/web-assist/report.do?agreement=aa&reportPath=REPORT_2&reportScript=Rep2.pl&event=18&swap=1&dir=1&sia=SFCITY&ria=UCD&ia=SFCITY&oia=UCD&aay=14-15&ay=14-15&dora=MATH says that Math 110B (calculus 2) at CCSF will cover UCD Math 21B, but does not necessarily mean the other way around.

Note that lack of a one-to-one mapping with several other math courses.

The engineering and cs courses are heavily impacted at most good CCs. Since priority is based on the number of units you may not be able to get the classes you require within 1 and a half years to transfer out on time. With that said the cost is a lot less. If you are okay possibly delaying your transfer by 1 yr then I would recommend going to CC.
