Hello! I am currently a freshman at UW Bothell and I was just wondering what it would take and how long it would take to transfer to the Seattle campus.

How does the process work? I know it's incredibly tough, but I am up for the challenge! I was dropped from Seattle's waitlist during the summer, which was a bummer (insane rhymes yo!), but I really want to get to Seattle!

Current schedule at the Bothell:

B CUSP 107
B CUSP 104
B CHEM 142

What major would you also say would give me an edge in transferring? Biology?

More credits - higher chances. Higher GPA - higher chances. The lack of your desired program at UW Bothell also increases your chances. If I were you I would just withdraw from Bothell and go to a community college. Why? Because it’s much easier to transfer from a community college and because you can always go back to Bothell if you don’t transfer to Seattle.

What is the increase of chance if I transfer to Seattle from a CC? Currently education is free for me right now (Actually made an extra $500!) Thank you FAFSA!) because I have 2 other siblings which both go to UW Seattle.

Also, what would the process be like if I just dropped out of UWB to attend CC? Would there be any negative side effects?

Also, does anyone have success stories to share?

Well, I don’t know the increase in numbers, but the UW allocates 90% of all transfer spots for those from community colleges. And the rest 10% for those from 4-years. You will be given no preference in transferring from a different UW campus.

The situation with financial aid is of course a whole different story. I don’t know if you can “transfer” it from Bothel to a CC right away. So yeah, that’s a problem.

I don’t think it should have any negative effects. Technically, you haven’t even attended Bothell. I mean, there will be no records in your transcript if you drop out within the first few weeks. Enrolling into a CC is very easy…

But you know, I would recommend you talking to an adviser. I don’t want to give you an advice which might ruin your life I’m just letting you know that there is another option…

I just crunched the numbers I saw on the UW website…and out of the 5000 or so people who applied as transfers in 2011, 144 people from a 4-year college were admitted. That leaves me with about 3% chance of successfully transferring :o

Man, what a dilemma I am in right now. It’s not impossible, but it’s highly improbable…
I think I should find an adviser…or I could just do really well at my time here in UWB…The mean transfer GPA was 3.46, and 80% of transfers were from in-state…

I’m not really that good at math, but why did you calculate it as three percent? You will be competing against those from four years only since there is 10% of spaces allocated to them. So, you have to consider the percentage of those who were admitted from four years, not all colleges.

You might want to finish this quarter at Bothell and then go to a CC (just because of the finaid situation). However, i do not know how Seattle will look at that later. First i would consult an adviser from Bothell, then from Seattle. I think that those from Seattle also work in admissions, so they might give you a better insight.

Oh, I misinterpreted the data. I was looking at it like this:

5023 people applied for transfers and 2006 were offered admission. Out of those, 1441 actually enrolled. I just divided the numbers and ended up with 0.0399. I forgot to take into account that people who are offered admission do not necessarily choose to enroll. Silly me!

Again, thank you for the much needed advice!

UW Bothell is not bad…but they mostly focus on business and technology…unless I am mistaken :o
