Its hard to compare because WP's highest offer is Masters, whereas VT is PhD. Its subjective, and especially depends on the different majors. Sorry if it came off as a dead-set statement cav.

While VT likely does more research and has graduate students, West Point without doubt has more talented undergraduates and provides a better teaching/educational experience. I'm somewhat familiar with both environments...and they don't even compare.

Agreed. I looked greatly into the USNA (until I found out I was totally medically disqualified, which sucked) and attended their summer seminar, and was blown away at not only the fact did the faculty make themselves seem like they were always around, but midshipmen actually told stories of being in a prof. office past midnight or even at their house to learn something. Here at VT, it takes a week to set up an appointment if you can attend their weekly 3 hours of office hours.
Trust me, I hold great standards for WP, as well as the other MCs. I hope this guy gets in UVa too, as it would definently be a great asset and experience for everyone. Theres just some things that public universities like VT have over WP just because of lifestyle, such as more clubs/eng. opporunities outside the classroom/more room for internships/ect. But like I said, purely because of lifestyles. But I think theres far brighter students and more work-oriented students at WP, because of that different lifestyle.

i probably should start the essays soon, but i have three tests tomorrow. its difficult to schedule time for these things!

as for the WP v. VT argument. wp has the better academics, undoubtedly. They rank continually in the top 3 for civil, mech, and are one of few with an accredited nuke program, and a full degree in it. unfortunately, the tradeoff is a social life and the normal "growing up" opportunities my friends have. the whole maturity, and hard working deal is one giant facade! hahahaha.

shoe- WP : VT :: apples : oranges (you were looking for an analogy) i'm a second year, and WP only offers bachelors.

thanks all for the help, again.

Haha yeah, I agree, WP is definently better in the academics overall. But each place has strengths and weaknesses, but frankly, I think I'd hire a 3.0 from WP before VT, even with it being my alma mater. Just like I'd take a 3.0 from VT over a 3.0 from a CC. But all the same =)
As for the essays, I just started joting down notes of what I wanted to say for about a week, then started the essays and did them all in about 2 days (theres two that wont apply to you, such as job/time off), then take a week off, let them stew, and come back to them. You have four weeks left, so you should be fine =)

I'm wondering. Are all the people who weren't admitted to UVA but had to go somewhere else as desperate as you?

wow, how immature

and all you people talking about reputation of program as if you even talked to a hiring manager of any company.... much less lockheed martin and northrop grumman, etc...

incredible

Cool beans - Atleast i'm fighting for what I want out of life. Get off my back for that, plenty of people do so. I'm doing it honestly and fairly, and its in my best interest, so I don't care what you say.
Laughter - I was trying to be supportive. None of can imagine what life is like for a WP cadet, and if he doesn't transfer out he's stuck there, and if he wants out, then he needs all the support he can get.

So before everyone calls people on here desperate and immature, take a step back and realize we're just trying to change our lives. Go find somewhere else to take your powertrip, unless you have something positive or productive to say. Grow up, this is college.

calm down, there, everybody.

we're all here to get our questions answered. there's no need to name call, or start ****ing contests. it's a computer. if you don't like what a person said, grumble unto yourself. there's no need to get in their face.

I like you haha. I'm 110% for you getting in. Good luck man =)

Why is it unfair to compare VT to a CC when it's perfectly cool to compare VT to WP? That seems a little contradictory. I think VT is a bit better than a CC just like WP is a bit better than VT.

anyways....getting back to the point, i figured i'd go sincere instead of funny. i think you have to be able to read your audience in order for them to read you properly. humor is so subjective i don't want to run the risk of the essay falling flat. thanks for the help guys...keep your fingers crossed for me

I agree. I have some light heartedness in my essays, but more over a couple of sentences here and there. I definently don't have any in my "why uva", as thats pure from the heart. Although the last essay, im doing the three people at dinner, and it definently has some humor at one point since its a free/open essay.

and we'll both keep our fingers crossed for both of us =P
